Job Description
Eaton’s Critical Power & Digital Infrastructure (CPDI) Division is currently seeking an Electrical Production Test Technician Apprentice to join our team inYoungsville, North Carolina. The Production Test Technician Apprentice will receive on the job training to perform testing, troubleshooting and repairs on single phase and three phase medium voltage UPS systems, while receiving formal instruction at a local community college. This program is expected to last for one (1) year, and all graduating apprentices will be eligible for full-time employment with Eaton as a Test Technician. In this role: You will attend classes at a local Community College up to 10 hours per week (via online or in person), and will work the balance of hours in On-the-Job Training to become a Production Test Technician I. You will exhibit a strong adherence to quality by continually seeking methods of improvement for all functions of the position. You will ensure that all products and parts adequately meet Eaton’s quality guidelines as they move throughout the production process and perform quality checks as instructed. You will read electronic schematics to ensure products meet defined specifications You will report any Non-conformance items by utilizing our Quality Management Guidelines You will recommend modifications and improvements to enhance the products for quality, reliability, manufacturability and cost effectiveness You will communicate with Production Associates, Quality Engineering Technician, Manufacturing Engineers and Test Engineers to resolve daily production and warranty issues You will check maintain equipment to ensure compliance with ISO 9000:2000 standards You will identify and implement corrective actions for the repair, replacement and calibration of laboratory tools and manufacturing equipment You will use the principles of 5S+ to ensure a clean and organized work area When we embrace the different ideas, perspectives and backgrounds that make each of us unique, we — as individuals and as a company — are stronger. Qualifications Basic (Required) Qualifications: High School Diploma or Equivalent Enrollment into Vance Granville’s Eaton specific Production Technician Apprenticeship Curriculum Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship Relocation assistance is not available for this position. Only candidates in the immediate geographic area (50 mile radius) will be considered. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation. Position Criteria – in order to successfully complete the Production Technician Apprenticeship Program, you will be assessed quarterly on progressive knowledge of the following: Demonstrated ability to take and give direction Ability to use good judgment and problem-solving skills to make informed decisions Good interpersonal and presentation skills Ability to communicate effectively across all levels Basic computer knowledge of Windows based operating systems and programs Ability to read and understand formal, informal drawings, and/or electronic schematics Ability to completely test and troubleshoot electronic products Ability to work daily and/or weekend overtime, willingness to flex to different areas or local plants as needed Ability to lift 50 lbs. Ability to distinguish colored wiring Ability to stand for extended periods of time. Repetitive lifting, bending, and squatting is inherent to this position. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of switchboard and switchgear operations; electrical and electronic devices Manufacturing systems knowledge (KANBAN, JIT, Production scheduling) Prior education in electronics or engineering Experience with DC battery currents Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications What you will get from us Eaton’s mission is to improve the quality of life and the environment through the use of power management technologies and services.
