Talent Manager - Supply Chain

Main Purpose of Job

Reporting to the Regional Supply Chain Manager, you will coordinate and drive recruitment activities and application processes for new vendors including individual freelance translators, groups of freelances and agencies, in order to ensure that external resource requirements for current and anticipated projects are met at all times.

You will be the main channel of communications for SDL with vendors for your languages. You will develop expert knowledge and awareness of the vendor community in your countries, so you can network effectively. Your objective will be to build a mutually-beneficial relationship with freelances in order to place SDL, as a client, in a strategically positive position within your local vendor communities. As Talent Manager, you will be the primary SDL contact for your countries and you will deal with all the escalation issues and corrective action requests involving our vendors that may be required.

You will design and carry out the activities related to vendor recruitment, such as advertising for applicants, identifying and contacting potential vendors, processing applications including organization of tests and evaluations, and entering details of successful applicants on the SDL Vendor Database. You will also be involved in organizing and participating in events such as Vendors Days to promote SDL’s profile and relationships with vendors.

In agreement with your manager, you will be responsible for making, rolling out and tracking the Purchasing Plan in your office, as a strategic comprehensive tool to coordinate all the aspect of our spend plan. You will inform the in-house Translation Team of new vendors added to the Database on an ongoing basis and will keep track of the integration of new vendors on live projects. You will be responsible for promoting their integration and designing roadmaps to accelerate usage if required. You will also monitor utilization of vendors throughout the year to ensure balanced usage and to assess the potential for volume discounts.

You will compile ongoing statistics for your manager, to measure the effectiveness of recruitment sources and methodology. You will create a reliable system for tracking multiple leads and applications so that any specific application can be rapidly retrieved whenever required.

You will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of all data on the Vendor Database for the resources, language combinations and subject areas applicable to your office. You will check regularly that all entries are current and consistent in format, updating old and redundant information whenever required.

You will carry out rate negotiation with vendors as specified by your manager. You will use your knowledge of the internal Database, external market and vertical-specific information to keep a constant track of rates so that you can ensure that vendors’ rates are always in line with commercial requirements for our projects. You will use expenditure data to analyse the effectiveness of our cost control strategy and identify where SDL can reduce spend. You will review this data regularly with your manager to determine required actions.

You will be fully familiar with the SDL corporate rules associated with processing vendor applications and using the Database. You will ensure that procedures are followed correctly including testing, registration and contract agreement before inclusion on the Database. You will make sure that users of the Database understand rules for updating Bookings, Histories and discount rate data for projects, reporting to your manager on compliance levels.

You will understand the full functionality of the Database, and will instruct and train others on advanced usage, in particular sophisticated search techniques such as searching on key words.

You will make sure that new vendors have a clear understanding of SDL’s quality and performance expectations and procedures by distributing approved documents at the point of registration. You will also be in charge of compiling and/or creating (and regularly updating) local material, tools and instructions that your vendor communities may require to best render their service to SDL.

Main Duties

  4. Compiling ongoing statistics to measure effectiveness of recruitment sources and methodology

  5. Tracking multiple leads and applications accurately and efficiently to enable quick retrieval

  6. Creating, rolling-out and tracking of the Purchasing Plans.

  7. Maintaining integrity of all data on Vendor Database for resources, language combinations and subject matter areas applicable to your office

  8. Carrying out rate negotiation and acting as main contact for non-project communications with vendors

  9. Analysing expenditure data to validate and strengthen the effectiveness of our cost control strategy

  10. Supporting users to understand Vendor Database rules and checking compliance

  11. Instructing and training users to use the Vendor Database in the most effective way

  12. Informing in-house Translation Team of new vendors added, and promoting and monitoring their active integration in live projects. Also, monitoring utilization of vendors to ensure balanced usage

  13. Ensuring new vendors have clear understanding of SDL’s expectations and procedures

  14. Developing expert knowledge and awareness of SDL vendors and the vendor community in your territory, to be able to advise on freelances and pick up useful information and contacts for strengthening SDL’s vendor supply chain
