Job purpose

Tax Accountant will support the indirect tax team members and support the Indirect Tax strategy of the Corporate Tax Department and assist in the effort to centralize the Indirect tax processes and responsibilities in the region. The Tax Accountant will assist in supporting the substantial operational improvements planned in the APAC region which includes but is not limited to:

VAT Compliance for all APAC countries where Albemarle has operations. Risk reduction, early identification of issues and improved speed and quality of audit response. Partnering with personnel in other corporate functions (Invoice to Cash and Requestion to Pay) and global business units to achieve Tax Department and company goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, Accounting or Finance preferred
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Japanese or Korean is a plus.

1-3 years in the relevant field

Advanced communication level in English (both written and verbal)

Work experience with VAT reporting, preparation or review is a must, strong preference for candidates with experience with VAT reconciliation and related accounting tasks

Work experience with third party invoicing in China Golden Tax is a plus

Proficient with Microsoft Excel.

Experience using ERP systems (SAP preferred).

Experience with ONESOURCE Tax Determination Tools a plus

Main Duties and Responsibilities of the Role

The responsibilities of the job include:

  • Responsible for VAT/GST compliance, non-trade remittance withholding VAT& Surcharge declaration, day-to-day tax issues for assigned entities within APAC Region (including: China, Taiwan, Singapore, Australia, Korea, Japan,). Ensure timely submission of tax returns with high accuracy of data.
  • Responsible for China VAT refund / Export VAT refund declaration if any.
  • Follow up variances showed in VAT reconciliation to make sure no aging items.
  • Responsible for mandatory statistics report and possible local governmental report regards to indirect tax for China entities.
  • Support of special projects that advance Tax Department initiatives.
  • Calculating and maintaining tax attribute data for use in tax planning and compliance. 
  • Responding to audit inquiries and information requests from tax authorities in term of tax compliance work. 
  • Partnering with personnel in other corporate functions (Invoice to Cash and Requestion to Pay) and global business units to achieve Tax Department and company goals.
