Tax Director, Federal Compliance & Planning

 

Location: This position has the flexibility to accommodate hybrid, fully remote, or in-office work to qualified candidates in the USA

 

Position Summary:

Bentley Systems' Finance Department is expanding and looking to hire a Tax Director in our Exton, PA global headquarters. The position will be reporting to the Vice President, Global Tax. We are seeking an experienced, energetic tax professional with a proven record of success. The Tax Director – Federal Compliance & Planning position offers exposure to a myriad of various types of corporate tax compliance and provision issues in the areas of Federal and international taxes. The Director will lead all aspects of Bentley Systems US Federal tax compliance, prepare U.S. tax provision calculations in support of the global tax provision process, oversee U.S. income tax controversy, and assist in tax planning. The Director will work with other members of the tax team, as well as the financial reporting and accounting teams, regarding tax compliance and tax accounting issues.

 

Your Day-to-Day:

  • Oversee all Federal aspects of Bentley Systems US compliance.
  • Technical review of Corporate tax returns, including the provision of technical guidance throughout the compliance process.
  • Manage quarterly US Federal tax estimates.
  • Research and propose resolutions on complex tax issues.
  • Review complex tax calculations including but not limited to US E&P, R&D credits, stock compensation.
  • May assist with GILTI and FDII computations.
  • Manage &/or prepare quarterly and year-end US Federal tax provision calculations, including tax account reconciliations and roll forwards, as well as resulting journal entries, and related footnote disclosures.
  • Manage US Federal Income Tax Audits and inquiries.
  • Advise on global acquisitions, restructurings, and mergers. 
  • Support acquisition teams during financial due diligence and subsequent integration activities.
  • Maintain processes and controls to ensure compliance with SOX and audit requirements.
  • Work on special projects, which may include ad-hoc analyses, lead meetings or discussions, and ensure project activities are managed through completion.
  • Influence decisions, drive processes and obtain results in an efficient, collaborative manner.
  • Develop, mentor & motivate staff.
  • Continuously look to improve departmental methods for information gathering and analysis through internal and external tools 

 

What You Bring to The Team:

  • 15+ years of professional tax experience (including “Big 4” public accounting and industry). 
  • Significant experience leading a team in overseeing Federal income taxation of C Corps with a public accounting firm and/or multinational corporation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business or related course of study.
  • An MS in Taxation or MBA and/or a CPA certification is preferred.
  • Experience in accounting for income taxes under ASC 740
  • Proven record of accomplishment in managing a domestic tax team, best-in-practice compliance, successful audit resolution, process re-engineering
  • Leadership and project management skills.
  • Exposure to international taxes and transfer pricing is desired.
  • Working knowledge of tax and general ledger tools including CorpTax, SAP, MS Office, Excel and Word.
  • Proven record of significantly impacting financial performance through the utilization of leading-edge, innovative and lawful tax strategies which minimize federal and international tax burdens for the Company across all domestic (and ideally international) markets.
  • Proven capacity for handling multiple tasks, coupled with flexibility and creative problem-solving skills in a time-sensitive environment.
  • Possess strong orientation to detail, assuming ownership of projects and organizing to deliver on deadline.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to foster a team-oriented environment, working collaboratively with cross-functional departments. 
  • Ability to read and interpret comprehensive and intricate documents.  Ability to write reports and technical correspondence.  Ability to work with executives and communicate abstract concepts.   Ability to present to high-level leaders of the organization and groups outside of the organization.
  • Ability to solve problems with complex variables through non-standardized solutions that require independent judgment and analysis.  Ability to draw inferences and use deductive reasoning with no prescribed procedures to solve complex problems.
  • Requires sitting or standing at will while performing work on a computer. The role requires communication with managers, peers, and other colleagues of the company in person (on occasion), and by utilizing Microsoft Teams chat, calling and meeting functions.
  • This role does not require travel.
