PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Teaching Assistant is to assist the teachers in achieving student learning objectives that promote student success within and outside the classroom.The teaching assistant provides clerical support, student support and student supervision.

REPORTS TO: Classroom Teacher

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist Homeroom teacher in terms of:

• Preparing teaching materials
• Assisting students with their learning
• Supervising the behavior of students in the classroom and during school related activities
• Participate in and contribute to the development of the school’s professional community.
• Participate in and contribute to the school’s professional development programs.
• Participate in the school’s club program as needed.
• Present and maintain a professional demeanor.
• Accept that as a teacher assistant you represent the school at all times and as such support its ethos, vision and mission.
• Support colleagues (teaching and non-teaching) in their roles and responsibilities.
• Be a positive and constructive member of the faculty.
• Lesson planning
• Act as bus monitor as needed.
• Perform other related duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS, ATTRIBUTES AND EXPERIENCE

• Must be proficient in the English language, both written and spoken
• Experience and/or knowledge of a western educational setting
• Willingness and ability to work with young children
• Adaptable/flexible and open to new ideas
• Be able to follow direction and be a good listener
• Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team
• Appropriate computer skills
• Possess sufficient mobility to monitor students and control behavior of students in classroom and non-classroom situations.
