How will you make an impact?
The Technical Application Specialist (TAS) determines own practices and procedures and contributes to the development of new concepts. TAS will be in contact with internal and external customers on a daily basis working on complex problems in which analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors.
What will you do?
- Provide technical support for Thermo Fisher Scientific Molecular Probes brand labelling and detection products by answering customer technical inquiries. Inquiries may be received via telephone, email, or chat.
- Provide customer support on technical issues by using all available resources.
- Escalate issues or problems when warranted.
- Participate in training, both new-product training and continuing education, to remain at the leading edge of scientific knowledge.
- Accurately record pertinent information from customer contacts in the customer relationship management (CRM) system.
- Summarize trends and technology as technical tips, FAQ’s and troubleshooting guides.
- Recommend changes to knowledge databases, website, and other company managed databases.
- Present technical updates and contribute to department meetings.
- Participate in specialty team or individual projects.
- Job encounters recurring work situations with occasional variations from the norm, involving a moderate to high degree of complexity.
- Decisions are made within policy constraints. Occasionally, situations may warrant action outside of company guidelines, in which case representative is encouraged to share solution with Team Leader prior to action. Erroneous decisions may lead to customer dissatisfaction and/or increased costs for the company.
- Normally receives no instructions on routine work, general instructions on new assignments
- May need to perform other related duties as required or assigned.
How will you get here?
Education
Requires a BS, BA, or equivalent, in biology, immunology, or similar field. A MS/PhD is preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 1 year relevant research laboratory experience required.
- Experience in fluorescent labeling & detection technologies, including flow cytometry, and HCS applications desired.
- Must have microscopy experience.
- Chemistry and Biochemistry experience is a plus.
- Prior experience in a role that required direct interaction with customers is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Proven ability to quickly learn large amounts of new, complex technical information required.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, to customers and colleagues is required.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities required; problem-solving ability required.
- Computer literacy, including spreadsheet, database, and word processing applications as well as extensive use of the Internet is required.
