SDL are currently looking for a motivated, enthusiastic [Technical Architect] with a strong development background using Java to join our dynamic Professional Services engineering team. The successful candidate will work in a team and be responsible for the scoping, design and implementation of client specific customisations for SDL’s world-leading web based Translation Management solution, SDL WorldServer™.
 
Essential Skills

• ~10 years commercial development experience using a C based programming language
• Ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications
• Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical users
• OOP - Java and .NET experience
• Database experience using Oracle PL/SQL and/or SQL Server
• HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript
• Oracle Java Certified (Associate Level and above)
• Previous experience using SDK’s / API’s
• Servlets, JSP etc.
• Agile experience
• Unit testing
• Experience using either Eclipse or JetBrains IntelliJ IDEA
• Problem solving and troubleshooting
• Apache and IIS experience
• System integration experience
• Source control: Subversion (SVN), GIT and Team Foundation Server (TFS)
• XML/XSLT

 
Desirable Skills

• Knowledge of Spring/Hibernate
• Hardware architecture specification
• Linux / UNIX administration
• JasperReports or similar reporting tool experience

 
Responsibilities

• Mentoring colleagues on Java and C# development in line with SDL Enterprise solutions
• Mentoring colleagues on Agile project methodology
• Software and hardware solution design, documentation and implementation with collaboration from consultants and project managers working on internal and external projects
• Delivery of technical specifications and code for robust, generic (where possible) customisations that can be reused for clients with similar requirements
• Work closely with the SDL WorldServer™ development team to communicate the way clients use the software to drive future development and enhancements
• Adhering to and providing input into development Best Practice
