What you will do

The Omics Product Team closely works with and supports Amgen’s R&D Molecular and Computational Biologists in identifying new drug targets, validating them for specificity and characterizing drug induced molecular changes in tissues. The team coordinates development and advancement of IT solutions and analytical data pipelines for Genomics (GWAS, Bulk RNASeq etc), Transcriptomics (Single Cell RNASeq), and Proteomics.

The Omics Product Team is integral to R&D Informatics that partners with R&D teams globally to develop and implement innovative Technology and Data solutions to accelerate and grow Amgen’s pipeline of bio-pharmaceuticals. Key Responsibilities:

  • Plays a Business Analyst role on internal Omics pipeline projects, creating user stories in conjunction with the Product Owner, and working with the software/data engineers to ensure quality of deliverables and alignment with business needs

  • Supports design, development and delivery of high-quality, scalable and robust software products and components in collaboration with product teams, stakeholders and engineering teams

  • Oversees validation of product releases and ensures development of associated documentation

  • Ensures effective communication between research leadership, technical staff and vendors to compile scientific requirements and implement informatics solutions for Omics data acquisition, processing, integration and analysis. 

  • Contributes to the design of R&D information models and data assets to meet internal and external standards of data integrity, reliability, and interoperability

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree and 2 years of Informatics and/or Information Systems experience

Or

Master’s degree and 4 years of Informatics and/or Information Systems experience

Or

Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of Informatics and/or Information Systems experience

Or

Associate’s degree and 8 years of Informatics and/or Information Systems experience

Or

High school diploma / GED and 10 years of Informatics and/or Information Systems experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Computer Science or Engineering

  • 1-2 years of IS Business/Systems Analysis experience

  • Knowledge in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology/Omics is desired

  • Experience in systems analysis, Agile development, DevOps, and implementing complex solutions

  • Working knowledge of software engineering practices across full software development life cycle (SDLC), including rapid prototyping, agile methodology, DevOps frameworks and release management

  • Strong data analysis and reporting experience leveraging analytics, visualization and database technologies 

  • Ability to communicate technical ideas in common terms to business and technology partners

  • Strong verbal, written, interpersonal communication and presentation skills and ability to communicate with Business users in non-technical language 

  • Self-motivated individual with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with Computational Biologists, Therapeutic Area scientists and Data Engineers and play a key role in translating scientific business needs into data engineering requirements

  • Working knowledge of Cloud technologies is preferred (EC2 servers, Docker/Containers/S3 storage, RDS, Databricks, Jupyter notebooks etc.)
