Position Overview: Eaton Corporation’s Electrical Sector is seeking a Technical Director, Controls and Embedded Systems. This position will report directly to the Vice President of Engineering. This is a hybrid position that can be based in our facilities in Moon Township. PA, Atlanta, GA, Raleigh, NC, or Cleveland, OH. This role is responsible for leading and driving technical systems design and solutions for Electrical Sector Americas’ Controls and Embedded Systems domains. This person will support of the broader Energy Transition, Electrification, and Digital Enablement strategic initiatives, with a specific emphasis on accelerating and delivering on the Sector’s five-year growth programs. The role will work across Divisions and Centers of Excellence (CoE) to drive and deliver the creation and implementation of high-level and low-level embedded and control systems and software architectures. This person will also establish the general architectural vision that guides the organization, serving as guiding principles across all Eaton stakeholders and engineering teams. Essential Responsibilities: Transform how Eaton approaches systems engineering by establishing and implementing industry-leading Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) agile best-practice standards to deliver on mission-critical, critical-infrastructure Controls and Embedded Systems applications controlling complex systems Coordinate across the Sector and the Digital Office to implement the best-of-class Continuous Improvement / Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) workflows as they apply to embedded and controls component use cases, especially in respect to how multitudes of operating platforms and controls application middleware is consumed across many development teams Develop Embedded and Controls component, system, and solution Minimal Viable Product (MVP) prototypes through Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4, leveraging Customer Readiness Level (CRL) analysis in collaboration with stakeholders and direct customer interaction Define embedded and controls systems architectures, from MCU/SoC/microprocessor selection though controls and digital software approaches, in collaboration across the divisions and related COEs Evangelize Eaton’s leadership in the controls and embedded systems domain by leading external and internal conferences, expositions, and workshops Drive the adoption of systems engineering solutions by collaborating with and influencing internal and external stakeholders Collaborate with commercial organizations across Divisions on the technical diligence of strategic partnerships, merger and acquisition opportunities, and investments in startups and other entities Mentor engineering teams (Division, ES Global, and Centers of Excellence) to drive standardization, in-sourcing, and the realization of strategic initiatives. Create and integrate the five (5) year technology roadmap on controls and embedded systems by working with the Divisions and the Eaton Digital Office (EDO), driving adoption of new technologies and modern tools – focusing on enabling digital products and services Position Criteria: Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills, including the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly across different audiences and at varying levels of the organization Must be capable of leading effectively in diverse cultural situations with global customers and team members Must be capable of initiating and providing recommendations and solutions for Senior Leadership Team’s review and approval that will achieve desired customer outcomes and business result Lead and contribute to business acquisition, requirements analysis, design, code and unit test, integration and test, requirements sell-off, and operations and maintenance of embedded software and hardware systems Ensure that products/projects delivered meet customer requirements and specifications. Drive process improvements to aid in team coordination and maintain delivery schedule. Manage complex software and hardware programs across cross-functional teams Qualifications Basic Qualifications: Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in the design of hierarchical control systems, with an emphasis on high-performance embedded and distributed industrial control systems and related applications Minimum of eight (8) years of software technology experience in embedded controls design, embedded controls development, communication protocol design/standards/applications, multi-controller integration, middleware, and systems design, analysis, diagnostics, and testing A minimum of eight (8) years of leadership experience in managing high complexity agile software projects with an emphasis in embedded and complex systems. Additional prior experience with Waterfall and other development methodologies is preferred Candidate must be authorized to work in the US on a continuous basis without company sponsorship Education: An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution is required An Advanced degree is preferred Compensation: Eaton recognizes this role as a critical position within the corporation and will create a compelling package consisting of a base salary, employee incentive compensation, including long term incentive, and complete benefits Location: This is a hybrid position that can be based in our facilities in Moon Township.
