Job Description
This executive leadership role is responsible for leading and driving systems digital simulation, modelling, and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) solutions for Electrical Sector Americas, in support of the broader Energy Transition, Electrification, and Digital Enablement strategic initiatives, with a specific emphasis on accelerating and delivering on the Sector’s five-year growth programs, and beyond. The role will work at the Electrical Sector level and across Divisions and Centers of Excellence (CoEs) to drive and deliver the following: the creation and implementation of the vision, strategies, and platforms supporting complex systems simulation, modeling, and digital twin initiatives with an emphasis on model-based approaches to the design, testing, and analysis of system products from conceptualization through operationalization enable and coordinate across the Electrical Sector Americas Divisional systems engineering teams and global Centers of Excellence (CoE) on the strategy and application of systems, platforms, standards, and practices to accelerate the adoption of and successful use of technologies to reduce risk and accelerate time to market enable cross-domain teams though expert leadership, crossing controls, magnetics, power electronics, electronics, and mechanical domains, establishing best practices and leading the competency across Divisions. oversee the development and execution of the ES Americas simulation and digital systems plan, standards, and roadmaps to promote commonality, reuse, interoperability, efficiency, and effectiveness across the Divisions. This position will serve as the primary liaison and communicator between the various organizational stakeholders across ES-A, ES Global, and the supporting functions. As the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for digital simulation, modeling, and device digital twin architecture, the incumbent will serve as the organizations’ principal resource across initiatives. This individual will serve as a seminal expert at the industry level on the use of digital technologies to enable model-based design, simulation, and digital twins in actual development and post-development physical products. Provide Sector-level executive and subject-matter leadership that enables and informs highly diverse and highly distributed teams of systems, mechanical, electrical, electronics, magnetics, and software engineers; providing the leadership and guidance needed to help those teams de-risk, digitally design, and accelerate the release of very complex products that are used in critical infrastructure and other applications. Transform how Eaton Electrical Sector Americas approaches systems engineering by establishing and implementing industry-leading best-practice standards, helping to drive the adoption of new tools and capabilities, enabling engineering agility. Coordinate across the Sector, Information technology, and the Digital Office around best-of-class simulation process and data management workflows as they apply to Americas use cases. Help drive simulation Minimal Viable Product (MVP) prototypes through Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4, leveraging Customer Readiness Level (CRL) analysis in collaboration with stakeholders and direct customer interaction. Define simulation systems architectures, with an emphasis on AI-acceleration, automation, and scaled workflows, in collaboration across the Divisions and related CoEs. Evangelize Eaton’s leadership in the simulation systems domain by leading external and internal conferences, expositions, and workshops with the participation of Divisional and CoE personnel. Drive the adoption of systems engineering solutions by collaborating with and influencing internal and external stakeholders. Accelerate Americas engineering teams from a “project-based” approach to the use of simulation platforms and technologies, to the integral use of such systems to drive product development across the entire product lifecycle. Collaborate with commercial organizations across Divisions on the technical diligence of strategic partnerships, merger and acquisition opportunities, and investments in startups and other entities. Mentor engineering teams (Division, Electrical Sector Global, and CoEs) to drive standardization, in-sourcing, and the realization of strategic initiatives. Facilitate and enable a culture of experimentation, where engineering teams are encouraged and enabled to test, fail-fast, learn, and succeed. Create and integrate the five (5) year technology roadmap on simulation systems by working with the Divisions and key stakeholders. Foster the development of new talent by helping drive outreach initiatives, sponsor internships, and collaborate with academic institutions and research centers. Represent Eaton as an industry-level Subject-Matter Expert (SME) in controls and embedded systems domains, directly interacting with customers, suppliers, and partners. Participate in industry trade and technical organizations, such as IEEE, SAE, SISO, NIST and other standards setting bodies to advocate for Eaton’s interests across industry technical communities and foster Eaton’s leadership in simulation and modeling. Establish cross-division centers of leadership in simulation and modeling systems practices and methods, driving knowledge-sharing and education to help accelerate broad innovation in Eaton. Generate Eaton intellectual property, including documentation, protectable designs and methods, and other materials that highlight Eaton’s leadership. Position Criteria: Demonstrated and extensive experience planning, implementing, and supporting Model-Based Engineering (MBE) and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) initiatives in a complex, heavily matrixed organizational structure. Demonstrated experience in developing and leading communities of practice in MBSE and/or MBE and/or SE domains. Demonstrated exposure to and knowledge of lightweight and agile MBSE process variants, and a strong knowledge of the intersection of hardware centric MBSE and agile software development methodologies (to include CI/CD and DevSecOps approaches). Demonstrated and extensive expert-level experience delivering design and simulation models to include tooling such as Ansys, DL4J, MATLAB and Simulink, CATIA, Enova, SolidWorks, Abaqus, Autodesk/ALGOR, COMSOL, etc.). Demonstrated experience in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), FEA, Multi-physics modeling, simulation, and domain challenges and approaches. Exceptional ability to lead, collaborate, openly communicate, influence others, and present and negotiate effectively across disciplines and stakeholders (e.g., marketing, engineering, customer support). Qualifications Basic Qualifications: Master’s Degree or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Thermodynamics, Aerospace, Electronics, Magnetics, Power Systems, or a related Engineering discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of six (6) years of progressively advanced experience in the design, modeling, simulation, and analysis of highly complex industrial products and systems (such as in aerospace, automotive, energy, and similar domains) with an emphasis in Model-Based Engineering (MBE) and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE). A minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience in managing high complexity engineering projects and teams with an emphasis in complex systems analysis. Additional prior experience with agile methodologies (such as MAHD) and digital systems design workflows is strongly preferred. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated experience in the application of deep learning as applied to simulation modeling is strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience in power systems modeling and simulation preferred. Demonstrated experience as an active participant in standards setting and other industry-related associations, in particular those committees and bodies focused on electrical and mechanical standards (ANSI, IEEE, etc.) and on simulation and systems engineering (INCOSE, SISO, NDIA, DSMO-MSSM, IEEE, etc.) is preferred. Demonstrated experience in MBSE threat modeling for Cyber-Physical System of Systems (CPSoS) is preferred. Demonstrated experience in working with and facilitating university and industry association interations, especially when focused on bringing best practices and talent into organizations, is preferred. The annual salary range for this role is $174,720.00- $240,240.00 a year with an annual performance-based incentive plan with a target at 28% of base salary and long term incentive.
