Job Role and Responsibility:

VMware’s Industry Standards Office (INSO) is seeking a versatile, dynamic Technical Program Manager to drive core administration, programmatic functions, and operational responsibilities for standards initiatives across VMware.

Located within VMware’s Office of the CTO, the Industry Standards Office’s mission is to fiercely represent VMware’s strategic interest in national and global standards, fostering key product standards alignment and strengthening the implementation of best practices throughout the industry.

As the Industry Standards Office (INSO) Technical Program Manager (TPM), you will own responsibilities for driving initiatives supporting all aspects of standards development.  In this hybrid role, you will bring your unique combination of program management rigor and programmatic methodologies to group engagement management and standards development.

You will work directly with management, product managers and technologiststo execute operational and strategic initiatives. You will manage cross functional tasks helping to drive the group’s impact, expanding visibility and improving transparency. You will also own a subset of standards setting organization engagements where you will manage proposal reviews and the coordination of responses which best represent VMware’s strategic interest and vision.

Technical Program Management Role

In this role, you will work closely with product managers, researchers and technologists forming virtual teams to drive the execution of cross-functional initiatives. You have the ability to work in a fast pace andconstantly evolving environment.  Demonstrate autonomy while adhering to team mission and strategy.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Perpetual standards membership management ensuring engagements align with current and future product strategy and provide best ROI.
  • Liaise with groups of key VMware stakeholders and sponsors to gather and prioritize strategic objectives, specifications, and standards information for vital insights towards strategic roadmap planning.
  • Proactively report and manage status, issues, blockers, metrics, and project timelines as needed ensuring expected business outcomes.
  • Analyze and data mine standards engagement data to produce dashboards, graphs and charts visually representing activities to support groups engagement and investment levels.
  • Drive execution plans, timelines and manage risks and contingencies.
  • Operate in collaboration with different business units within the company, including research projects, product groups, sales, legal, finance and product security for timely execution towards project deliverables.
  • Manage group communications consisting of whitepapers, newsletters, blogs, proposals, and internal socializing demonstrating thought leadership and knowledge depth.
  • Represent VMware at key industry standards bodies, industry forums and consortiums, as appropriate, to ensure resulting standard or specifications meets and aligns with VMware’s strategy directions.
  • Willingness to continuously learn new relevant topics, technologies, and techniques to represent stakeholder interest with standards bodies.
  • Good understanding of the security evaluation process, product compliance programs and assurance levels required for various regulatory certifications and compliance programs. (i.e. PCI, FedRAMP, NIST SP-800-53, etc.)
  • Assist with identification of new trends and requirements for emerging standards areas providing recommendations to management.
  • Establish relationships as trusted advisor with key industry players and government.
  • Leverage your subject matter expertise, market insight and vison to help align and guide product management to maintain industry leadership.

Required Skills:

  • You have a BS/BA degree in Business or Technology-related field (required)
  • You have Program Management certification (PMP) or equivalent (required)
  • You have 10+ years’ experience implementing technical projects and programs in complex, cross-functional, global contexts.
  • You have mastery of MS-Office suite producing macro driven reports, dashboards, financial and tracking reports for management.
  • You have a proven track record of effective change management, stakeholder engagements and reporting.
  • You are able to function independently and in a team environment.
  • You have excellent communications (written/verbal), interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • You should highlight any experience with standard bodies and industry groups where you produced proposals or submissions

  • Being a self-starter. Able to understand when to take initiative and be pro-active, always thinking ahead anticipating needs.
