Job Description
The Technical Service Engineer is a critical role in WireCo’s journey to be the technical leader in our industry segments. This position will connect customer needs with their partners in Product Design, Planning, and Operations. The Technical Service Engineer will lead by example all aspects of the WireCo Business System (WBS) including the Behaviors – teamwork, accountable, self-aware, noble intent, determined, transparent, and curious.
As a Technical Service Engineer, you will have many and varied responsibilities to manage. You will provide technical support to WireCo’s customers in a variety of industries including mining, crane, energy, and fishing. As a technical expert, you will partner with our commercial teammates including territory managers, regional managers, and business development managers to visit customer sites to engage in technical reviews and meetings. As the Technical Engineer in the field, you will serve as the liaison back to the to the Product Design & Technical Service team and share information, data, observations, and recommendations. Using your deep knowledge of WireCo products, WireCo’s strategic plans, product performance, rope applications, and evolving industry needs, you will provide leadership and support to the industry specific Principal Engineers.
This position will be remote (not based at a WireCo facility or office). Domestic and international travel will be required approximately 75% of the time.

- Timely resolution of customer issues, questions, and complaints.
- Superior technical support provided to WireCo colleagues, distributors, and end users through on-site visits, engineering reports, failure analyses, field investigations, and training classes or seminars.
Technical Strategy
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for your assigned industry.
- Translate customer requirements, industry, standards, and manufacturing capabilities into product and process design.
- Ability to perform failure analysis, determine root cause and appropriate corrective actions, and implement corrective actions. This may include physical examination of ropes and field equipment, disassembly of ropes, and thorough documentation of findings.
- Establish the use of sound engineering standards, data analysis practices, and testing protocols.
- Maintain technical expertise on advancement and innovations in your area of expertise.
- Ensure WireCo’s representation on industry boards, councils, standards committees, and technical conferences.
People
- Cultivate and maintain effective partnerships with stakeholders including external customers, internal customers, original equipment manufacturers, and other engineering groups.
- Motivate self and others by initiating actions and effectively communicating project goals, requirements, and results to stakeholders.
- Spend approximately 30-40% of time communicating with internal stakeholders, such as but not limited to, Product Management, Product Design & Technical Service, Operations Management, Sales Management, and the Commercial Excellence teams.
- Spend approximately 60-70% of time communicating with external stakeholders such as customers and distributors, acting as a technical authority for WireCo.
Knowledge and Experience
- University degree in Engineering or related discipline required, advanced degree preferred
- 5 years of experience in relevant engineering roles or 3 years if advanced degree
- Solid foundation of engineering fundamentals related to the area of study
- Ability to learn to achieve practical ends through the application of scientific principles
- English required
- Multiple language proficiency is preferred
- Active driver’s license
- Background check required for business travel purposes
- Valid passport required for business travel purposes
