JOB FUNCTION
Position Introduction:
This position will direct the technical activities (Technology Development, New Product Development, Standardization, Product Line Support, and Program Management) for the Architecture Coating China Division. This position will also be responsible for delivering innovative new products and technology that will exceed business objectives of profitable growth, leading quality and annual productivity. Ensure sound, efficient and professional technical practices are continuously improved and deployed. Identify current and future technology trends to differentiate PPG Architecture Coating and align with overall business strategy. Proactively collaborate with Regional Sales teams to help PPG Architecture Coating become the preferred power management supplier in the Chinese market.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Drive technical activities including Technology Development, New Product Development, Standardization, Product Line Support, and Program Management to deliver annual and strategic business objectives.
- Act as the R&D leader for Architecture Coating proactively innovating technology and products that will keep PPG a leader in technology and cost position.
- Contribute to the strategic planning to achieve business goals in China by identifying and prioritizing development initiatives and setting timetables for the evaluation, development, and deployment of Products for the local market.
- Manage the performance of the overall technical team to ensure achievement to budget ($ and resources), timely and closed loop product line support and efficient utilization of technical tools, systems and processes.
- Develop, track, and control the development and deployment annual technical and capital budgets for purchasing, staffing, and operations.
- Appropriate local certification processes and coordinate certifications with local Schemes.
- Build strong R&D leaders and R&D experts throughout the organization. Deploy strategies to maximize retention and develop a pipeline of talent. Supervise recruitment, training, retention, and organization of all development staff in accordance with the company hiring process, personnel policies, and budget requirements.
- Assure that strategic plans, major program launches, and key programs are properly planned, executed and managed.
- Lead intellectual property protection and product liability activities to meet short and long term goals.
- Partner with Technical department of Headquarter and support key initiatives and act as point person with internal Sales teams, marketing team to facilitate new products launches and improvement of customer services.
- University degree in the field of chemical, chemical industry or related major, MS or PhD is preferred.
- Above 15+ years of working experience of chemical product research experience including at least 10+ years team management experience, coating industry is preferred.
- Must have manufacturing working environment with 5+ years in any Technical Director Position and operation position (Production, Quality, TS, EHS, etc.) experience in multinational companies, experienced merge & acquisition organization change is a plus.
- Must have the experience to work independently and lead technical team to innovate new product and develop product formula in the lab.
- Fluent in English, could be independently attend con-call with cross national team
Key points:
- Have the experience the take any management role in production, technical, quality or EHS function in no less than 100+ people scale manufacturing site and lead 5+ staff team.
- In recent 5 years, directly contact clients in consumer and project industry, and have an efficient communication with local sales and marketing team to explore business chance and finally develop and launch new products with at least 3 successful cases.
- Successfully lead and manage senior R&D team with low technical skills and inefficient working process to achieve company targets. This experience should be at least 3 years.
- Have the experience to join a new company and successfully lead an existing team at least two years, deploy strategies to maximize retention, develop a pipeline of talent and set up training system to make team improvement and get high performance.
