Senior Technical Writer

The Opportunity

SDL has an opening for a Senior Technical Writer to expand our team in Amsterdam.  You will communicate complex information clearly, concisely and accurately, reducing the user's reliance on deep technology know-how.

Key Responsibilities

• Define, communicate, and manage product line documentation plans and schedules
• Interact with Subject Matter Experts (product managers, product owners and developers) to find out what to document and how to document it
• Work closely and proactively with multiple development teams: initiate, plan and execute the documentation of features and product changes as they are being developed and tested
• Ensure that the documentation you produce passes substantive reviews by developers, quality reviews by QA, and peer reviews by fellow technical writers
• Use SDL's own products to create and organize content in DITA to produce documentation deliverables for the web
• Deliver lead-by-example documentation that continues to set SDL apart in the world
• Provide input in the form of useful feedback to drive design and set functionality scope
• Work as part of multiple Agile teams, following SAFe methodology
• Be a part of roadmap, design, QA and release management
• Communicate internally and possibly with the customer to obtain extra information, workarounds, and solutions
• Manage the localization of English documentation into other languages
• Manage the terminology used in the product documentation

Your Profile

Essential Competencies

• 3+ years’ experience in technical writing and editing using a documentation CMS
• 5+ years’ experience in an enterprise software or IT product organization
• Excellent, demonstrable English verbal and written communication skills
• Degree in English, Technical Communication or similar, or equivalent practical experience
• First-hand experience with Information Architecture and flawless grammar skills
• Prioritization and organizational skills that combine keeping overview with an eye for detail
• Ability to be a team player who has a “can do” proactive attitude and strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to take ownership of issues and drive them through to a resolution
• Ability to learn technical aspects of software products

Desirable Competencies

• Experience working with multiple development teams at the same time
• Technical writing experience in a large organization
• Agile documentation strategy experience within SAFe development iterations
• Product-oriented thinking; preferably experience in working for a product company
• Familiarity with the internals of documentation Content Management Systems and standards such as DITA, XML and HTML
• Topic-based documentation experience (for example, MadCap Flare, RoboHelp or Author-it)
• Familiarity with SDL Tridion Docs (previously Knowledge Center, LiveContent, Trisoft)
• Ability to identify and take leadership of issues and drive them to a resolution
• Proactive and energetic personality with an innovative mindset
