Technician of the Laser Cutting Workshop & Printing Workshop

Job Description:

The technician of the Laser Cutting Workshop & Printing Workshop is responsible for internal support to academic staff and students in the Department of Architecture with responsibilities including:

• To operate laser cutting machines and plotters and to train students to use laser cutting machines and plotters etc

• To supervise students working in the Laser Cutting Workshop and Printing Workshop and to ensure the workshop health & safety policy is adhered to at all times.

• To aid students with laser cutting; offer advice to academic staff and students on digital files, materials, and the operation of the machines.

• To clean and maintain the laser cutting machines and the Printing Workshop and keep a clean and tidy working environment

• To generally support the workshop manager and collaborate with the technical team in the smooth running and on-going successful development of the workshop

• To engage in departmental meetings, activities and events.

• To acquire skills and develop good practice for creating appropriate architectural models using equipment and materials

• To assist with the procurement of consumables and budget drafting

• To collaborate and assist in the workshop facilities

Qualifications

• College / university graduate, better if majoring in Architecture or relative subjects or with any other technical formation.

• Good knowledge and skills of standard office software packages.

• Knowledge of digital fabrication and graphic design and skills and experience in design software such as ADOBE bundle, Autodesk packages, McNeel Rhinoceros 5 or 8 and Grasshopper3D (holding certificate of completion of workshops and official trainings is a plus)

• Good and comprehensive English skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening and/or willingness to take extra courses to improve English skills

• Ability to understand technical/architectonic drawings and schemes
