Job Description
Major Duties and Responsibilities
The appointee will assist the project investigator in implementing all aspects related to an RGC funded research project examining Putonghua learning of South Asian minorities, specifically to study tone production and perception. He/She shall mainly be responsible for the following:

  • assisting in collecting and compiling fundamental research;
  • conducting surveys, interviews and linguistic experiments as well as data entry and analysis;
  • providing a wide range of administrative support to the project; and
  • carrying out other duties as assigned by Project Investigator.
 
Requirements
Applicants are expected to possess the following qualifications, experience and attributes:

  • a recognized Bachelor’s degree or above in linguistics or applied linguistic discipline, e.g. psycholinguisitcs, language acquisition, sociolinguistics; preferably with a higher degree and be familiar with experimental design and quantitative data analysis;
  • strong sense of responsibility and good organization and interpersonal skills;
  • competent in computer skills and software ( e.g. MS Office using Word, Excel and SPSS);
  • self-motivated and meticulous, and be able to meet deadlines and work independently;
  • an excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese; and
  • priority will be given to candidate who has relevant research or project administration experience.
     
Compensation Package
Successful candidate will be appointed on a temporary full-time contract starting from November 2020 for about 6 months and renewable subject to mutual agreement.  Benefits will be provided in accordance with the statutory provisions.
