Working within a global organization and customer community, this position is accountable for providing testing services by utilizing and developing measurement and analysis expertise. The Engineering Manager leads and supervises a team of test engineers and technicians, and activities globally that focus on defining test requirements, using company standard procedures or developing measurement systems to determine requested information. The Engineering Manager may also coordinate Technicians and Designers to assist in completing requested testing.

Accountabilities :

• Drives a disciplined approach to engineering activities in line with BorgWarner’s approach. Ensures that adequate plans and timelines are in place. Monitors progress and coordinates with the different support functions to address constraints and roadblocks.
• Works collaboratively with global Product Engineering and Advanced Engineering teams to meet testing requirements.
• Provides input on the testing strategy and overall direction of the Global Testing group, including assignments and the engineering process.
• Drives the development and/or improvement of engineering methods, procedures and design guides to continuously improve capabilities and efficiency.
• Recruits, trains, and develops a competent team to effectively achieve department goals and objectives.
• Provides input and supports activities related to budgeting and forecasting.

  Education & Experience :

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering - mechanical or electrical preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in related engineering position; automotive industry strongly preferred.
• Experience in Testing, Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality or ideally a mix of those is a plus.
• Experience in supervising engineers and working in a global team.

Skills and capabilities :

• Knowledge of VCT, timing drive, power transmission system and component testing.
• Proficiency with MATLAB
• Experience with engine dynamometer system software, hardware and mechanical systems.
• Experience with automotive test facilities including design, maintenance, operation and safety considerations.
• Fundamental engineering skills, including GD&T, tolerance stacks, drawing standards.
• Knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals, testing methods, metallurgy, noise reduction practices, tribology and engineering materials including plastics.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes including injection molding, die casting, stamping, machining and powder metal.
• Knowledge of TS 16949 requirements – DFMEA, DVP&R, design reviews, etc.
• Problem solving techniques (e.g. Ishikawa, FTA, 8D).
• FEA knowledge a plus.
• Strong project management skills and ability to concurrently manage multiple projects and priorities.
• Demonstrated ability in leading teams to achieve or exceed project goals while meeting timing and cost targets.
• Communication & collaboration, in particular the ability to work effectively in a cross functional, cross cultural environment with colleagues and suppliers in different locations / countries.
