Job Description
Reporting directly to the Testing Manager, the position includes client contact at strategic or technical levels as well as estimating and evaluating of testing projects and processes.
Supervision of a team of Testing Lead Engineers and Test Engineers which demands organisational, technical and management skills to ensure its optimal performance and development.
Managing test teams by providing guidance to Test Lead Engineers and Test Engineers, ensuring actions are clearly delegated and ensuring that resource and quality issues are addressed in a timely fashion.
Main Duties
Management

Managing test teams by providing guidance to Test Lead Engineers and Test Engineers, ensuring actions are clearly delegated and ensuring that resource and quality issues are addressed in a timely fashion.
Main Duties
Management
- Management of reports to ensure optimal performance. To include:
- Schedule and task allocation of Test Leads
- Regular 1-2-1’s to evaluate reports progress against objectives and expectations together with review and implementation of training needs
- Absence and disciplinary management
- Interaction with project management team to schedule and monitor project requirements
New accounts or projects (LQI)
- Project evaluation/analysis of client request and project assets to include:
- Understanding the clients requirements, seeking clarification where required
- Recognising and addressing probable errors/issues
- Providing evaluation report to include asset counts, file validation, time estimates, proposed project methodology/risk assessment, quality processes and list any software or hardware requirements (including environment set-up criteria)
- Input to quote: testing related notes and final sign-off
- Work with other departments to ensure that production methodology is understood by all, e.g. departmental tasks allocation during production
- Coordinating the testing workflow with SDL network offices and clients, including:
- Ensuring handover includes all information for optimal project efficiency
- Ensuring all information is included in the Empower Handover Module and specific instructions documents that do not refer to just emails or other transient means of communication
- Providing training where required
- Regular follow-up to ensure methodology, quality and schedule requirements are being implemented
Ongoing accounts/repeat projects
- Ensure project requirements are the same as before based on information supplied by PM/client.
- Ensure legacy evaluation report(s) are sent to the SDL network offices, PM’s and clients
- Ensure legacy handover information in the Empower Outsourcing Module and specific instructions documents are up-to-date for the ongoing projects
- Mediate where PM and testing teams disagree or escalate to departmental manager
- Check and countersign quotes before they are sent to clients
- Post project, document performance of testing team and feedback this during post-mortems. Ensure these records are available for future projects
- Developing & implementing test plans
- Directing Test Leads, Test Engineers
Competences and experience
Technical skills
- 3+ years working in a software production environment with experience with the following:
- Excellent knowledge of software environments in all its forms including server set-ups
- Experience in defect management tools (such as MKS Integrity, TTP or similar)
- Excellent knowledge of testing environment (both functional and linguistic)
- Aptitude for training others
- Good understanding of the factors and tools that influence project profitability

- Motivated, flexible, self-starter, who can work on own initiative as well as part of a small team
- Methodical, quality oriented, deadline driven with excellent problem solving skills
