As our pipeline is growing, we are searching for our new Therapeutic Area Lead (TAL), to lead, develop and support a team of Medical Advisors and Disease Area Specialist. This role is field-based within Sweden with the requirement of a regular presence in the office.

The role

In this unique role you will be responsible for leading our medical-scientific strategy in the field of respiratory and immunology (R&I) for Sweden. You will be part of a medical team and have direct reports located in Sweden.

The Therapeutic Area Lead (TAL) will contribute to the clinical development of products, informing clinical practice and managing a team with the goal to achieve leadership, by objectives with a clear patient centric external approach. By establishing and maintain collaborative cross-functional relationships with internal and external partners, the role holder ensures success of the teams medical affairs activities.

As a Medical affairs professional, the TAL ensures close alignment between strategy and operations. The aim is to increase effectiveness, create more room for innovation and external focus with clear internal cross-functional partnership and accountability.

This role is responsible for outlining of and flawless execution of the therapeutic area medical strategy and Medical Activity Plan. All activities have to be fully aligned with MSL guide and internal Nordic Marketing Company standards.

The Therapeutic Area Lead reports into the Medical Affairs Department (Medical Head BBU Sweden) and must not have commercial objectives or measures.

In addition, you will:

  • Build and organize a medical team of excellence to ensure the success of the portfolio, building and creating a culture of development
  • Enable success of the teams medical affairs activities such as in-depth medical and scientific product or disease area discussion, insight gathering, congress activities, investigator management, external sponsored research, and presentations in a non-promotional scientific context
  • Support team development, focusing on the consolidation of its strengths and the strengthening of improvement areas, ensure implementation of Individual Development Plans, develop skills and scientific leadership of the team
  • Active contribution to development and implementation of cross-functional Business Plans
  • Translate scientific knowledge into strategies and tactics that support business success and demonstrate valuable insights from the external environment to improve decision making
  • Analyze products in development or existing in the portfolio, identifying their potential future use and business opportunities for the company
  • Scientific Leadership, close work with other partners connected to studies, real world evidence and clinical studies enable Sweden to be an attractive country for study conduct.

In order to succeed

We are looking for you who holds a Medical education MD, Pharmacist or other relevant PhD, MSc. The following capabilities and competences are most critical for you to succeed;

Scientific Leadership: 

  • In depth therapeutic area knowledge across the respiratory & immunology spectrum and experience of cross functional collaboration with Marketing, Market Access and Patient Access
  • Experience in team management and of working in a senior medical affairs role or other indirect leadership medical affairs role
  • Ability to travel
  • Creation and execution of a strong strategic vision in combination with a scientific approach
  • Proven success of IMAP deliverable including experience of coaching in field
  • Extensive experience from entire spectrum of drug development relevant for marketing company
  • Proven success of the majority of marketing company medical affairs initiatives (e.g. the medical affairs toolbox).

You will need to have excellent communication and presentations skills, fluent in both written and spoken English, Swedish and preferable in at least one additional other Nordic language.

Your proven expertise in discussing scientific content and context to a variety of audiences will be as important for the role as will your excellent understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, health care systems and payer structures in the Nordic countries.

Desirable qualifications

  • Innovative mindset with experience in external collaborations that has changed clinical practice
  • Postgraduate degree in business or management development
  • Advanced scientific degree in life sciences or a related area
  • Clinical and/or research experience within the relevant therapeutic area
  • Financial planning and budget management
  • International experience of medical affairs.
