This is a Thermal Engineer role reporting to the R&D Team Manager in the Business Area – Electrification, Smart Power located in Shenzhen, China. You will be a member of mechanical team, be responsible for the thermal design, and test in China.

Your responsibilities

  • Working under the guidance of Mechanical Manager to finish the thermal design and test of EVCI, working with global and local EVCI team to finish the design, localization and manufacturing of EVCI.
  • Creating thermal model to simulate different cases, preparing report to show thermal risk. Supporting and running thermal test, analysis test result to find risk, and solve it.
  • Documenting and archiving all mechanical and thermal deliverables in each gate and maintaining these files. Ensuring adherence to ABB integrity and safety rules and regulations.
  • Working with Product Management and Architects to define high-level specifications of thermal (sub) systems and refining detailed Technical Requirement Specifications from these, with a focus on system integration and design safety / reliability.
  • Identifying and managing suppliers for the creation of thermal (sub) system prototypes and, at a later stage, for the productization of the prototypes. Defining and executing of validation tests to validate the functionality, performance and reliability of thermal (sub) systems.
  • Understanding the basic reliability concepts and of how to prove the lifetime of a component in the field through the various types of accelerated life testing. Creation of test setups, either personally or by working with lab-assistants.
  • Solid reporting of the validation test results; ensuring that all information is available for later reference. Preparing thorough and accurate documentation of the design of the system. For existing systems, providing support for performing root cause analysis (RCA) of design related problems seen in the field.

Your background

  • Bachelor’s or above degree in mechanical or thermal engineering
  • Above 7 years’ experience in power product, international company with China design presence background is preferred.
  • Good experience of fan, heatsink, heat pipe, liquid cooling pad, phase change, heat exchanger, etc. Good experience of Flotherm or Icepak etc, Flotherm is preferred.
  • Must be skilled on Creo, AutoCad with good experience with thermal design validation using climatic chambers, good experience of thermal component’s qualification.
  • Should be comfortable in the lab, pragmatic approach to creating up test setups / executing test plans with a solid eye to detail and accuracy. Knowledge of test scripting for automating test setups preferred.
  • Must have good communication and reporting skills, ability to outline an issue or proposal in a concise and unambiguous manner, a team player with ability to working autonomously, being result-oriented with good ability to collaborate with others.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure. Willing to travel domestically and internationally, quick learner who can pick up system’s knowledge fast and efficiently.
  • Must be fluent in English and Chinese communication skill.
