Datacenter Advanced Development leads technology innovation for CO+I and is based in Redmond, Washington We are seeking a passionate and driven thermal engineer position for liquid cooling development for infrastructure and server.
The role requires experimental setup, benchmarking, validation experience, as well as coordination with vendors to execute detailed experiments and analyze data. Including thermals, mechanical, reliability, acoustics, accelerated testing, power performance and airflow-liquid testing for our next generation cloud server infrastructure. The candidate will be designing and running experiments and submitting detailed technical reports of findings.
Responsibilities
- Design and run comparative experiments of different liquid cooling technologies
- Detailed instrumentations and automated experiments design using labview
- Technical reporting and in-depth data analysis as well as building correlations between power, performance, temperature, latency, frequency, error rates…
- Ability to program mange suppliers as needed
- Prepare and setup different cooling technologies in the lab
- Technical writing skills and generation of high quality white papers
- Setup and run benchmarking on different SKUs in different cooling solutions
- Setup required electrical, network, and data acquisition systems for experiments
- Organize with MSFT labs, facility, building, and safety
- Engage with subject matter experts from CSI (learning new benchmarks and setups required)
Qualifications
• M.S./Ph.D in Mechanical/Electrical/Computer Engineering or 6 years similar experience
• Deep understanding of server/ data center liquid cooling technologies
• Experience is using CAD tools suchs as CREO and CFD tools such as Flotherm, 6Sigma, Fluent
• Experience in systems hardware testing (development, execution, and debug).
• Knowledge of server system architecture and hands-on experience in bringing up, integration, and validation of PCBAs, hardware components, and systems.
• Familiar with and able to develop scripts (python, power shell) and routines to enable and accelerate data collection and data reduction via automation.
• Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Server
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Familiarity with network infrastructure
