Thesis (Master) CFD simulation of mixing processes in battery production
SIEMENSMuenchenUpdate time: December 5,2022
Job Description
Mode of Employment: Limited Use your knowledge as a springboard. For our society to transition the mobility sector and the energy grid to renewable energy, industry must produce battery cells on a terawatt scale. Manufacturing is at the forefront of this revolution to reduce scrap rates and accelerate the ramp-up of new production lines. An important prerequisite is a better understanding of the processes involved in battery production, and simulation is an excellent tool for this. As one of the very first steps in battery production, the mixing of the slurry has a major impact on the overall quality of the battery at the end of production. This is why we want to take a closer look at slurry mixing in this master thesis. The aim of the thesis is to develop a CFD model to simulate the concentration distribution in mixing tanks, to visualize the results at our lab demonstrator and (optionally) apply the results to battery production. Change the future with us. You will develop a CFD model to simulate mixing processes of two liquids with different concentrations to gain the concentration distribution within the mixing tank and attached pipes You will visualize the results based on experiments with a small-scale demonstrator in our lab You will transfer the simulation strategy to a real industrial application e.g. slurry mixing in battery production What you need to make real what matters. You are currently studying Mechanical/Process Engineering, Simulation Technology, Applied Mathematics, or a related discipline You have sound knowledge in the fields of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics and numerical methods Experience with CFD modelling (STAR-CCM+ preferred) and CAD tools completes your profile Coding experience is a plus You have no problems to start the design and implementation of a solution from scratch You have an independent and structured way of working You are fluent in English and German is a plus Make your mark in our exciting world at Siemens. www.siemens.de if you wish to find out more about Siemens before applying.
