$15 - $23 an hour

Job Summary/Trackman

Work as a member of a crew to install new railroad track, maintain existing track and right-of-way. We will be looking to hire early to mid-April 2019. Candidates must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test. Starting Pay $15-$17 per hr. Minimum work week is 40hrs, most weeks are 50+.

Primary Activities and Responsibilities

  • Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries
  • Participate in group discussions including unit meetings, job briefings, safety meetings or process reviews
  • Wear protective equipment such as hard hat, hearing protection, safety-toe boots, or safety glasses
  • Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, and various shift work
  • Remove and replace track and track components (e.g. ties, rails, bars, etc.)
  • Replace or repair track switches with specific components
  • Slide and align tie plates
  • Digs ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, and compacts and levels earth to grade specifications.
  • Operate large non-powered hand tools such as shovels, picks, axes, cutters, and sledgehammers, and operate proper electric, pneumatic, or hydraulic hand tools such as drills, impact wrenches, jacks, power saws, and grinders.
  • Loads, unloads, and identifies building materials, machinery, and tools, and distributes them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications.
  • Drill holes through rails for insertion of bolts and tighten or loosen bolts at joints that hold ends or rails together
  • Correct deviations in track surface, alignment, and gauge
  • Cut rails to specific lengths
  • Adjust, lift and roll rails
  • Sort track material for loading and unloading
  • Cut brush and vegetation from the right-of-way

Physical Requirements

  • Works outdoors at construction sites.
  • Performs physical activities that require considerable use of the arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as standing, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending and handling of materials, equipment, and tools.
  • Uses hands and fingers to grasp, manipulate, and/or assemble objects and tools. This job description is not intended to represent a complete, comprehensive list of all duties and responsibilities that may be required in this position.
  • Heavy work, lifting up to 70 pounds occasionally and up to 100 pounds on a rare basis.
  • Exposure to equipment that intensifies the heat factor on an occasional basis

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $15.00 to $23.00 /hour
