YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Trait Discovery & Testing Microbiology, are to: 

• Aggregate internal, collaboration, and external data to develop hypotheses;
• Design and execute microbial isolation and metagenomic experiments to deliver genetic sequence data for identification of weed and pest control proteins;
• Experimental validation of hypothesis through appropriate use of statistics and bioinformatics;
• Remain current on the latest advances in microbiology, sequencing (including metagenomics), bioinformatics, machine learning and data science practices, to effectively partner on incorporating innovation across the discovery process;
• Influence the discovery of all weed and pest control products; decisions affect technical and regulatory probability of success in de-risking the Plant Biotechnology Weed and Pest Control Discovery pipeline;
• Be responsible for addressing complex, evolving tradeoffs in strategy and resources that require creativity and influence.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science with at least 10 years of relevant experience or Master of Science with at least eight years of relevant experience or Ph.D. degree with at least four years of experience in Microbiology, Microbial Ecology, Environmental Ecology, Metagenomics, or related discipline;
• Demonstrate experience with designing, conducting, and analyzing microbial ecological experiments, including culture independent methods (metagenomics);
• Familiarity with next-gen sequencing technologies and experience evaluating next-gen sequence;
• At least two years of experience leading projects, initiatives, or teams; setting technical strategy, synchronizing activities with team members, stakeholders, and management;
• Demonstrate ability to deliver results in a matrix environment, leading & influencing people at varying levels of responsibility;
• A passion and creativity for solving problems;
• Proven ability to communicate complex concepts and analytics across domains in a clear, precise and actionable manner;
• A consistent record of delivering impactful results, such as publications in leading scientific journals and patents.
