Job Description
eChinacities is an English website for the English-speaking community in China and for anyone interested in Chinese news and culture outside of China. The website includes comprehensive information on 41 cities in China, including city guide articles, news and events, expat blogs and translated articles, a nationwide Answers section and one of the country’s biggest job and classified sections for foreigners.

Work Location:
Beijing

Start date: ASAP

Internship duration: 3-6 months (flexible, with the opportunity for P/T or F/T employment)

Job Description:
Successful candidates will assist in translating from Chinese to English, editing and polishing content, researching and writing articles and short posts (mainly using Chinese media sources) and generating topic ideas and content, moderating community posts and promoting in social media such as Facebook and Twitter.

An internship at eChinacities can also help students and new graduates bridge the gap between school and the working world. During the programme, interns will gain practical experience in translating from Chinese to English (interns will translate a wide range of writing styles, from current affairs articles to private blogs, and events info to practical city guide articles). The programme will also equip interns with excellent research skills using primarily Chinese sources and provides an excellent window for gaining a better understanding of China’s online media world and web community.

In addition to providing valuable work experience as translators, this internship will also allow interns to gain experience in editing and writing. Interns are encouraged to explore their local environment, stay up to date on topical issues in Chinese media and by extension offering a window to gaining insight into Chinese culture, news, events and trends.

Qualifications/Skills:
Native-level English
University degree (or currently enrolled in a degree programme)
Excellent translation skills from Chinese to English
Outstanding skills in written and spoken English
Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team
Keen interest in local culture, entertainment and online media
Ability to meet deadlines

Experience and/or qualifications in journalism/translating/online media a plus
