ABB is seeking a Transport and Logistics (T&L) Region Sourcing & Performance Manager for the Americas. This role is responsible for assessing transportation market trends and designing sourcing strategies that leverage the purchasing power of ABB on a regional level enabling the TMC(s) sourcing and performance management teams to achieve the respective performance targets for the Transportation & Logistics categories in scope. The position holder will manage various category managers and initiatives and ensure that regional category strategies are defined and implemented in close collaboration with key business stakeholders. The following spend areas are under the management of the position holder; 5CC Road Freight Transportation, 5CD Express Transportation, 5CF Project and Heavy Lift Transport. All categories cover both Domestic and International operations.

This role can be based at our Cary, NC; New Berlin, WI; Greenville, SC; Fort Smith, AR; or other major ABB location. Remote/work from home opportunities may be considered in close proximity to a major ABB site.

Your responsibilities

  • Sourcing Strategy - Leveraging the Continuous Improvement Process Sourcing (CIPS) process, implements effective sourcing strategies consistent with business strategy and requirements ensuring that the supply base/suppliers have the capability and capacity to meet current and future business requirements. This position will perform market analysis, track trends in pricing and supply dynamics, and compile a commodity library for the organization. In collaboration with BU stakeholders, develop cost reduction and service performance initiatives to support BU operational plans.
  • Category Managers - Manage Category Leads (5CC/5CD/5CF) for T&L AMC Sourcing to achieve required business targets and results. Support Global Category Managers on local requirements for 5CA/5CB/5CE/5CG.
  • Procurement - Manages planning and tracking of procurement activities, cost budgets, spending and savings forecasts. Minimizes risk regarding quality and financial exposure by buying in accordance with quality and commercial procedures and in accordance with Company guidelines.
  • Negotiation - Negotiates agreements with main logistics suppliers, and periodically renews price lists, terms and conditions. Conducts RFQ processes by category.
  • Contracts – Adapts corporate contractual framework to the local business needs. Recommends frame agreements to management and executes upon approval. Provides ongoing oversight and contract management with transportation providers.
  • Supplier Agreements – Ensures identification, investigation, and selection of appropriate suppliers (focusing on quality, delivery, cost and sustainability) in accordance with Company policies. Defines and establishes local standard agreements with all major suppliers. Provides and maintains standard terms in purchase contracts/terms and conditions in line with Company directives and guidelines.
  • Special programs – Designs and implements cost-out programs and/or processes to reach financial targets and defined Business Line requirements.
  • Business continuity – Applies and implements SCM standards, tools, and processes focused on business continuity for the assigned groups of commodities.
  • Budgets and Performance Targets – Contributes to and participates in setting and implementing budget and targets within the framework. Ensures the Category sourcing performance targets are achieved.
  • Supply Base and Performance Management – Conducts regular supplier performance reviews and ensures that operational performance targets are met. Actively manages improvement initiatives when/where required. Supports Global Quarterly Business Review process.
  • People Leadership and Development – Ensures that the sourcing function is properly organized, staffed, skilled and directed within each TMC. Guides, motivates and develops direct and indirect subordinates within HR policies and Group Supply Chain Management excellence guidelines (knowledge management, functional training, etc.).

Your background

  • Minimum of University Degree in related field.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in Strategic sourcing of Transportation and Logistics services.
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
  • Strong analytical and strategic planning skills.
  • Strong negotiation and commercial skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Substantial understanding in contractual law governing Transportation and Logistics.
  • Highly motivated; results oriented; able to learn quickly.
  • Constructively questions and challenges assumptions.
  • Attention to detail; organized.
  • Advanced MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word skills. Knowledge of MS Access Database and/or SQL programming desirable.
