Job Description
ADJUNCT FACULTY POSITION IN CHINA
TO TEACH INRODUCTORY SOCIOLOGY OF A NEW YORK STATE UNIVERSITY
The Course: SOC 101 introduction to Sociology. An analytic, skills-based, writing-intensive introduction to sociology. Major topics include: culture, groups, and social structure; the power and influence of the media; self and identity; social inequalities based on race, class, and gender; and social change.
The Location: High schools in Shandong or Jiangsu Province, China where a New York-area university’s courses are delivered.
Contract duration: 10 months from September 2015 to June 2016. This is a full-time teaching position. Opportunity for contract extension based on continued availability of course and satisfactory review.
Training and Support:
-IAA's Shanghai office will provide logistical support
-IAA New York Program Coordinator will maintain contact with instructor to provide professional support.
-Instructor will be required to attend the Summer Institute for all instructors on the prior to departure for China and beginning the position. Following their appointment, Instructor will also attend annual professional development seminars.
-Training and/or mentoring will be provided by the university faculty throughout the teaching semesters.
The Candidate: Candidates must have advanced degrees (Master’s or PhD) in Sociology or a closely related field and five years of classroom teaching experience.
