UX/UI Designer, K&B Group


BASIC FUNCTION


The UX/Interaction Designer will play a key role in bridging the gap between visual, interaction and information design and be responsible for the information architecture and user interaction design for Kohler Co.’s digital projects. The Interaction Designer is expected to have expert knowledge of usability best practices, a thorough understanding of Web and mobile app development processes and a proven track record of successful collaboration with development and product teams to deliver high quality user experiences to Kohler’s global site visitors.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES


  • As an end-user advocate, apply user-centered design methods to translate user needs, business objectives, project requirements, and technology capabilities into world-class, emotionally sophisticated digital experiences.

  • Create complete interactive design documentation - including user scenarios, user/process flows, site maps, annotated wireframes, schematics, screen concepts, prototypes, functional and presentation specifications, and style guides for existing and new Web sites and mobile applications.


  • Collaborate with Strategy/Design/Content and Technology Teams:


  • Partner with the Strategy Team on business requirements and goals

  • Partner with the Design team on visual design integrity

  • Partner with the Content Team to ensure the delivery of their inputs coincide with UX and downstream dependencies.

  • Partner with Technology Team on design feasibility and to understand the documented technology standards for the platform and browser/OS specifications.


  • Gather and understand information about user needs from stakeholder interviews, market research, benchmarks, best practices and creates requirements gathering and functional / non-functional specifications

  • Develop click-through prototypes to demonstrate interactivity for internal stakeholders and usability test participants.

  • Participate in user research/usability testing (as needed or appropriate)

  • Contribute positively to design discussions visually, verbally and in writing:

  • Visually - create sketches, mind maps and storyboards for brainstorming

  • Verbally - Provide constructive design commentary and evaluative critique

  • In Writing - produce clear, thorough design specifications for others to use

  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team to help define, maintain, and evolve the navigation, organization, and interaction design system for Kohler’s sites.

  • Collaborate with agency partners, designers, and programmers to design interaction models and user interface elements to build a robust global design pattern library

  • Regularly assess existing Kohler sites/properties for usefulness and usability, and compare them to competitive sites, home design peer sites, and other compelling benchmark sites. Share findings with all project teams.


Skills/Requirements


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS


1. Bachelor’s or graduate degree in a design-related discipline (i.e., human factors, graphic design, interface/interaction design, or multimedia-related field), with a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in practicing user experience design; agency experience preferred.


2. Must have excellent written/verbal communication and presentation skills as well as demonstrable visual communication skills.

3. Excellent facilitation, white-boarding, presentation & team collaboration skills.


4. Strong working knowledge of information architecture and Web/mobile application usability design.


5. Must possess solid working experience with appropriate design and documentation tools (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, Invision, Axure, Sketch, Principle, etc.)


6. Demonstrated ability to problem-solve, multi-task, bring in fresh ideas, give and receive positive and constructive feedback, communicate in 360 degrees, and confront and resolve conflicts.


7. Must be a self-starter and be able to work independently and follow direction with proven skill in organization, work planning, attention to detail, follow-through and follow-up.


8. Experience working with enterprise-scale global Web sites built with Adobe Experience Manager and product data driven websites is a strong plus.

9. Global experience and fluency in multiple languages a plus.


10. Ability to travel when required—domestically & internationally
