Amgen’s 10 – 12 week internship program offers meaningful project experiences that impact patient’s lives.  This internship provides the opportunity for executive and social networking events and to participate in community volunteer projects while providing a competitive compensation.

Limited relocation housing and/or miscellaneous allowance may be available for eligible candidates.

A full-time, educational and developmental opportunity for a college student to gain valuable experience in an enriching and scientific environment while completing a meaningful project that directly impacts Amgen’s mission.

As a member of Amgen’s RISE (Representation in Clinical Research) team, and working closely with the Amgen Corporate Affairs R&D team, the intern will gain valuable, real-world exposure to industry-sponsored clinical research and play an important role in advancing the work of Amgen’s initiative to improve the diversity of participants in our clinical trials and the inclusion of underrepresented populations in our research.

Additionally, in partnership across the Research & Development (R&D) Corporate Affairs team, this position will support the communications planning and execution for a variety of milestones, events and content creation for Amgen’s broader Corporate Affairs team as it relates to DI&B. This individual will report to both Amgen’s RISE team as well as R&D Corporate Affairs. 

This role will interface with multiple work streams to help coordinate and deliver a consistent and compelling message to staff, media and other critical audiences. Support the development of communications strategies and plans that help our colleagues effectively and consistently communicate to their key audiences and stakeholders. Once fully vetted and approved, flawlessly execute on those plans and deliver measurable results. Develop external and internal communications materials to support these strategies. Serve as an R&D corporate affairs representative on formal and informal internal groups that have been created to develop strategies and tactics in support of Amgen R&D DI&B programs.

Provide tactical support for the R&D Corporate Affairs team on communications, writing and special projects, including Amgen R&D’s online presence. Follow process for review and approval that ensures message buy-in from related parties and Amgen’s executive leadership. Provide support to the R&D Corporate Affairs team on ad hoc projects including Amgen’s science, departmental processes, as well as Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging (DI&B) efforts across departments.

Basic Qualifications:

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an undergraduate internship or an undergraduate co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:

  • 18 years or older
  • Currently enrolled in a full time Bachelor’s degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
  • Completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing
  • Enrolled in a full time Bachelor’s or Combined Bachelor's/Master's degree program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university
  • Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred qualifications:

  • Degree concentration(s) in Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Healthcare or Communications
  • 2-4 years of lab experience
  • Strong basic lab skills
  • Ability to learn new experimental methods
  • Strong writing capabilities
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to conduct research
  • Ability to manage multiple projects consecutively
  • Demonstrated ability to bring structure to complex problems, pragmatic scoping and problem-solving approach, ability to objectively evaluate options/trade-offs and develop executive management-level recommendations
  • Knowledge and understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and regulatory policies
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Effective communication and organizational skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Power Point, and Word
  • Ability to multi-task and stay focused on priorities in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines
  • Strong teammate who is able to collaborate with colleagues on complex assignments
  • Prior work experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical or healthcare industry experience
