【Person Specification】
1.Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant subject;
2.Recognised teaching qualification for the required age range (e.g. B.Ed., PGCE);
3.Minimum of three years teaching experience in teaching the relevant subject in a senior school setting;
4.Minimum of two years’ experience leading a successful Department;
5.Previous experience of teaching ESL students;
6.Sensitivity to the cultural differences found in China and the willingness to develop and maintain a cross-cultural approach to work;
7.A positive attitude, professional collegial attributes, with a, ‘can do’, attitude ;
8.Committed to safeguarding and suitable to work with children in a boarding school setting.

【Main responsibilities】
Sedbergh School Fuzhou requires an enthusiastic, experienced iGCSE Head of Science to promote the science subject, and monitor and develop the quality of teaching, assessment and feedback within the department, and improve uptake of particularly science (physics, chemistry and biology) at A-level.

Candidates should have a proven track record of high-quality teaching at iGCSE and A-Level, preferably teaching students with English as a second language, with the ability to use practical activities to enhance learning.

Reporting to the Assistant Head of Upper Senior, the role will involve the planning, preparation, teaching, recording, assessment and reporting required to meet the educational needs of the students. With a team of experienced technicians and a well-resourced department, we pride ourselves on the inclusion of practical lessons as a regular part of the curriculum. Teamwork is an integral part of the department, and we assist each other through peer observations to constantly improve teaching practices. CPD is available to staff through internal and external providers.
