Job Description
THE POSITION Reporting to SVP and Chief Technology Officer, Electrical Sector, the VP of Engineering Operations & Program Management will develop and implement Eaton’s strategy for continual product development process improvement. He/She will provide overall direction for digital tools and methods required to develop the next generation of intelligent power management solutions. The role will have overall responsibility for identifying and deploying state of the art digital tool chains to speed innovations to market. This role will partner directly with the sector’s engineering leaders and teams on business unit critical programs, providing resources and program management expertise to quickly deliver high quality solutions to market. The individual will be responsible for developing, collecting, reporting and improving the critical KPI’s related to on-time, on-budget and on-performance new product development. This position will drive functional excellence and accountability individually and organizationally. THE PERSON Eaton is seeking an exceptionally talented technology visionary with excellent executive leadership skills, broad-based technology knowledge, and a demonstrated track record of successfully leading a global engineering organization. This individual will be well versed in emerging intelligent technology solutions. He/She will have at least 15 years of progressive engineering and/or program management leadership in a fast paced, global technology-driven company which has recognizable competencies in innovation. Responsibilities include: Overseeing the program management function across multiple business units to deliver New Product and major redesigns within all scope, schedule and budget commitments. This includes cross-functional coordination of Marketing, Engineering, Supply Chain and Operations team members for optimized schedules and communication. Applies state of the art Project and Portfolio Management practices and tools (project start-ups, project planning, execution & tracking, etc.). Leads major project reporting sessions (Projects and Peer Reviews, quarterly divisional reviews, etc.). Facilitation and administration of monthly product portfolio, program review and stage-gate meetings with the senior leadership team. Owns of the stage-gate product development process, PROLaunch, including training, continuous improvement of requirements, customization of deliverables, etc. Also owns resource planning for product roadmaps, water-lining and product portfolio management. Leads oversight of ProPM program management database used for all program status updates, resource planning and upward reporting. Responsible for influencing the evolution the enterprise PROLaunch and other Eaton Business System processes. Creating strong partnerships with ES engineering leaders to promote / implement the use of common state of the art engineering tools and methods within their critical programs. Understanding the product development processes and apply the best tools & methods that provide the highest level of quality and deduced time to market will be critical. Success factors include increasing BU engineering capabilities, reduction of design, build, break iterations and decreasing time to market. Working with global resources to enable high performance teams across functions, geographies, time zones and cultures. Build highly skilled teams that can efficiently develop products focused on key technology growth areas such as software engineering, systems engineering, embedded systems and power electronics. Demonstrate the highest standards of ethical conduct in leading the organization, ensuring protection of the environment, development of human resources, and application of sound business practices. Ensure key engineering objectives are met including customer satisfaction, time to market, project cost and product standard cost. Drive the pursuit of innovative products that meet the needs of the business, ensuring the world class level execution. Report to senior management on the state of development efficiency and YOY performance progress. Establish common metrics to gauge engineering proficiency across the electrical sector. Will work with global engineering council to harmonize, deploy and measure critical KPI’s with targeted YOY improvements. Responsible for measuring global engineering spend and new product vitality across the electrical sector. This includes the implementation of real-time dashboards and reporting on key metrics to senior management. Additional Requirements: History of delivering high tech projects, defining project scopes, developing and monitoring timelines and budgets for on-time and on-budget delivery. Demonstrated experience in leading new technology efforts from inception to transition to a customer organization, driving program deliverables, identifying and resolving technical and program decision/issues. Thorough understanding of the product development process with the ability to balance/manage commercial expectations and project timelines. Experience in leading globally dispersed development and quality assurance teams. Sensitivity to cultural differences and understanding communication practices needed to create successful partnerships in an open and supportive environment. Ability to communicate effectively in English across organizational lines. Team player with strong facilitation/interpersonal skills and a demonstrated commitment to continuous process improvement Experience presenting to Senior Leadership. Additional key qualifications include: Personal characteristics that illustrate strong leadership presence, excellent communication skills, a dynamic and outgoing personality, strong influencing and negotiation capabilities, and strength of character and conviction to advocate a strong position in taking intelligent risks. The successful candidate will have a consensus-driven style and will value the creation of collaborative relationships. He/she will have had experience in a highly matrixed fast paced innovation-driven business. Demonstrated experience in building organizational technology capabilities and increasing the development and movement of high performing talent through broaden experiences around core technology enablers, as well as provide scale and establish bench and succession depth. A track record of demonstrated success in influencing both technology and business leaders with respect to a longer term strategy and vision through an appropriate agenda and plans for implementation. Qualifications Basic Qualifications: Education must be based on completion of a 4-year engineering degree from an accredited institution. A master’s degree in Computer , Mechanical or Systems Engineering is also strongly preferred. He/She will have at least 15 years of progressive engineering and/or program management leadership in a fast paced, global technology-driven company which has recognizable competencies in innovation. Minimum 5 years of R&D experience and at least 3 years in a managerial position with demonstrated ability to act decisively based upon data and experience.
