Job Description

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Vegetable Phenomics Lead, are to: 

 

  • Develop conception, architecture, engineering and delivery of leading-edge Data Science solutions to business partners working in local and global teams;
  • Provide analytical methods and develop automated digital capability for data consumption, image stitching and phenotype classification (e.g., AI and statistical models for global breeding and Vegetable Research and Development) for computer vision projects from UAV, satellites or ground-based imaging platforms;
  • Develop and improve models for computer vision projects from video, still images ortho-mosaics either post-harvest or on plant for Vegetable Research and Development;
  • Develop automated routines to correct for the presence of image distorting artifacts, occlusion such as ground vegetation or leaf and fruit cover;
  • Conduct research into the application or enhancement of remote sensing technology and evaluate new technologies for deployment;
  • Manage and analyze public and private databases for remote sensing, related geospatial and phenotypic project information for product characterization;
  • Provide leadership in AI and statistical modeling and conduct analysis of high-dimensional and multi-layered experimental data from cutting edge environmental sensors;
  • Improve process efficiencies, teach statistical concepts and lead projects for increased precision and testing efficiency in collaboration with a cross-functional group of Geneticists, Pathologists and Breeders to enable optimized testing footprint and accurate yield predictions.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 12 years of experience or Master’s degree with at least eight years of experience or Ph.D. with at least five years of experience;
  • Ability to develop both technical abilities and leadership in a global team of data scientists through coaching and identifying key development opportunities;
  • Knowledge of and experience in statistics, machine learning, computer vision, image analysis, digital phenotyping, R/Python, analysis pipelines;
  • Experience in sensor modalities including RGB, multispectral, hyperspectral, LiDAR among others and sensor calibration in outdoor (field) conditions;
  • Excellent communication and influential leadership skills;
  • Visionary mindset and ability to think and act strategically combined with execution orientation;
  • High ability to solve problems and to structure and simplify complex tasks;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and contribute to an international and dynamic research and development team;
  • Desire to continue personal development in order to stay at the cutting edge of data science and to grow as a project leader;
  • Strong background as a data scientist within depth subject matter expertise in at least one area of remote sensing or agronomy.
