Position Title: Health Services Manager

Reports To: Site Director

Location: Lewisburg, Ohio

Function: R&D- Science and Technology

Direct report: 3

 

Direct, manage and participate in all aspects of the health and welfare of canine and felines at the pet care facility. Provide technical expertise and consultation for health and wellbeing issues while also maintaining robust medical and study related documentation.

 

What we are looking for:

Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience in veterinary hospital management or similar
  • Veterinary technician or DVM preferred but not required
  • Technical expertise and experience.
  • Knowledge of animal health, behavior and veterinary medicine.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Meticulous documentation and medical record skills.
  • Working proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed on an on-call basis.

 

What you'll be doing:

 

Health and Well-Being

  • Direct, plan, and accomplish the objectives and goals of the health care program to best fit study needs based on principles of animal welfare.
  • Coordinate with the attending veterinarian to maintain and continuously evaluate the preventative healthcare program and needs of a canine and feline population of approximately 500 animals.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the health care team, to include routine and emergent cases, procedural support (surgical and dental), as well as study support.
  • Responsible for detailed and accurate medical history records and any records necessary for study success.
  • Organize and coordinate study and health care schedules to best match available animal and personnel resources.
  • Collaborate with the attending veterinarian to build and maintain a network of relationships with external specialists in behavior and medicine to provide the most comprehensive care possible and source external contractors to support the team as needed.
  • Support and manage a team of veterinary technicians as a line manager to create, implement and maintain robust health, welfare, and care programs site wide.
  • Manage health care and welfare team budgets. Determine equipment needs and oversee equipment maintenance.

 

Research

  • Consult and participate in planning, preparation, and execution of protocols, study milestones, and nutrition trials for dog and cat nutritional products while overseeing that all principles of animal welfare and health are met.
  • Sustain facility and operational supplies, equipment, orders, regulations and compliance along with detailed and accurate medical history records and any records necessary for study success.
  • Contribute and participate on the site leadership team to create and maintain policies for daily operation and vision for future growth and innovation.

 

Regulatory

  • Uphold and maintain all policies as dictated by USDA to preserve licensure in good standing including collaborating with the attending veterinarian to prepare and host unannounced inspections and rectifying any recommendations as a result of these inspections.
  • Maintains compliance with all policies for Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and Board of Pharmacy including acquisition, storage, inventory, maintain records, and accurate licensure for management of controlled and non-controlled drugs.
  • Maintain professional license in good standing and complete necessary continuing education as dictated by the Ohio licensing board.
  • Maintain a position on the site IACUC (Animal Care and Use Committee).
