The Animal and Plant Care Facility (APCF) is seeking a highly enthusiastic and self-motivated candidate to fill the Veterinary Technician position to support the laboratory animal care and use programs in the University.

Duties & responsibilities of the Veterinary Technician include:

• Perform daily animal health observations, animal husbandry duties to maintain quality and health of research animals, record and report animal health concerns;
• Assist the veterinarian to provide treatment to sick animals;
• Supervise junior staff on supporting duties and animal husbandry;
• Assist scientists to perform animal experiments and breeding;
• Receive imported animals, quarantine and sample collection for disease screening;
• Collect facility environmental samples and conduct quality control laboratory tests;
• Assist orientation and hands-on training to new scientists and junior staff; and
• Any other duties as assigned. Non-regular working hours may be required.

Applicants should have a relevant degree in veterinary science. Experience in laboratory animal experiment and caring is preferred. Other experience in animal technology, laboratory animal science, zoology or equivalent disciplines are advantageous. (Duration: 2 years, renewable)

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
