Eaton is seeking a Vice President, Corporate Development and Planning. This position will be based in our Beachwood, OH location and will report to the Senior Vice President, Corporate Development and Planning.
This person will work with Eaton’s corporate, sector, and business leaders to advocate and execute acquisitions, divestitures, and joint ventures. The position is responsible for leading our corporate development and planning activities, which includes assisting business teams in refining acquisition strategies, leading cross-functional due diligence teams, managing the relationship with the counterparty and its advisors, determining valuation, understanding business issues and risks and reflecting them appropriately in transaction agreements, and leading negotiations through signing. Post-signing, the person will drive the transaction to completion and assist with the transition to our integration teams. He/she will also work to help shape Eaton’s corporate strategy, performing financial analysis and industry research, collaborating with Eaton’s CEO, CFO, and other company leadership, and assembling presentation materials that are shared with Eaton’s Board of Directors and Investor community.
Essential responsibilities include
- Lead teams through acquisition, divestiture, and joint venture processes
- Synthesize strategy, valuation, and due diligence findings to develop communications for management and Board reviews while also collaborating with our legal team, functional leaders, and business leaders to develop transaction documents
- Develop and implement negotiation strategies
- Collaborate with business teams to develop complete business cases with strategic and financial analyses
- Develop value creating corporate strategies by performing financial analysis and industry research and collaborating with leaders across the company
- Build effective corporate strategy presentations for Eaton’s senior leadership, Board of Directors and external audiences
- On an ongoing basis, train the organization in M&A valuation, deal process and corporate strategy development
- Maintain Investment Banking relationships
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and MBA from an accredited institution
- Minimum seven years working in M&A with practical experience in all stages of M&A processes
- Experience leading a wide breadth of transactions through due diligence, contract development & negotiations, signing, and completion over varied sizes from small (sub $25M) to large (over $1B)
- Global experience including leading acquisitions or joint ventures with U.S., European, and Asian targets
- Experience presenting to and interacting with C-level executives, including the CEO
- Previous professional experience working in corporate development
- M&A transaction and corporate strategy experience in industrials, electrical, and aerospace industries preferred
- Legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without company sponsorship

- Ability to quickly assess acquisitions and other investments, and communicate the key strategic value elements, areas of synergy, key risks and value detractors
- Professional presence to be able to communicate and operate comfortably and efficiently with senior executives, transaction counterparties, and advisors
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proven negotiation skills with the ability to lead through influence across both internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrated financial and business acumen
- Advanced Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint skills, and knowledge of industry research platforms
- Travel as necessary for project work approximating 25% of work time
