Job Description
PRIMARY FUNCTION: The VP, Global Engineering, reports directly to the President, Global Energy Infrastructure Solutions business and functionally to the Chief Technology Officer, Electrical Sector. This role has responsibility for leading the global technology strategy in alignment with the business’ strategic growth plan by identifying and developing long term technology needs, identifying new growth & innovation opportunities, and executing a unified product, systems and services strategy across the business. Partner with region and functional leaders to introduce and leverage industry and functional best practices. Lead the engineering organization by driving accountability, effectiveness, and process improvement. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Lead the business and technology strategy while taking a holistic view of the business needs of the company, the dynamics of the industry and the marketplace, the activities of key competitors, and the product and service requirements of customers. Drive the pursuit of innovative products that meet the needs of the customer, ensuring the world class level execution through the development of global multi-generational technology plan. Responsible for successful execution in the following areas: Marketing – NPI sales & OTP globally, Operations – VAVE deliverables, Finance – global budget management. Leverage global resources by building high performance teams across functions, geographies, time zones and cultures to deliver on key customer commitments. Responsible for driving the execution of technical skill shifts/capability, footprint optimization, and capacity planning. Build an innovation and technology culture by applying functional excellence through technology trends and product platforms, software platform strategy, portfolio/vitality strategy, connected products initiatives, develop higher global PMO capability. Drive the migration & integration of innovation initiatives from the global region’s classical core technologies to more advanced technologies through technology platforms to be leveraged across global product platforms with a focus on developing scalable digital technology platforms. Create strong organizational partnerships across the organization with engineering leaders to promote / implement the use of common platform technologies within critical programs. Understanding the areas of technical commonality and unique market / customer differences will be a critical to establishing Eaton-wide product & technology platforms. Look for synergy opportunities for collaboration across the region. Build capability and future talent succession, ensuring diversity in perspectives and experiences, to ensure team is able to meet growth goals through internal promotions and external recruiting. Qualifications SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE: Basic Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required from an accredited college or university. Minimum of 12 years’ experience in leading an engineering organization with demonstrated experience in leading new technology efforts from inception to transition to a customer organization, driving program deliverables, identifying and resolving technical and program decision/issues. Minimum of 10 years of broad engineering experience within manufacturing organizations. Minimum of 5 years of R&D experience. Must be able to travel at least 25% of the time domestically and internationally as needed and required Must be able to work in the United States on a continual basis without requiring corporate sponsorship Preferred Requirements: Master’s Degree in Engineering or Business Administration (MBA) preferred. A demonstrated capability to lead across a multi-divisional large-scale business, securing the commitment and alignment of differing parts of his/her organization through the use of influence and indirect authority. Experience and success leading globally dispersed teams. Strong knowledge and experience with the Eaton Business System and process tools such as profit planning, strategic planning, Organizational Capability Assessment, Eaton Value Cycle, Corporate Accounts, ProLaunch, Lean System/Six Sigma, Supply Chain Management, Fixed Capital Optimization, Eaton Quality System, and Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) processes (MESH, ISO 14001, etc.) is strongly preferred. An extensive background in driving continuous improvement activities to improve operational performance including knowledge of lean management systems and lean tools. Strong leadership skills along with proven capability to deliver results and build high performance teams. Strong operational and financial acumen, executive presence and the ability to lead multiple locations.
