The Role
The Business Unit HRD will provide strategic HR leadership across a large, global and diverse group of 1,000 colleagues, located across 20+ countries, working directly with the Executive Vice-President, SSG, and her senior leadership team. This role will report directly to the Chief People Officer of the RWS Group and will be a member of the global HR leadership team. The role will focus on the successful planning, delivery and execution of all HR activities in support of the SSG business strategy and will play an important role contributing to and supporting execution of the HR transformation programme.
The Strategic Solutions Group (SSG)
The Strategic Solutions Group, part of RWS’s Language Services division, works closely with major accounts and clients of all sizes who are going global with specialized localization services. These services cover the entire localization spectrum, from translating content, media and audio to creating engaging eLearning programs and transcreating highly impactful marketing campaigns. The SSG works closely with RWS’s Language eXperience Delivery (LXD) platform, which includes 2,000 in-house linguists, and a network of more than 29,000 translators, who use RWS’s proprietary machine translation, AI and translation productivity tools, to deliver a 24/7 service to clients.

Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with business leaders within SSG to support them with their people strategy focussed on attracting, engaging, and retaining the skills and capabilities required to support successful execution of the business strategy
- Working with senior leaders on organisational challenges including transformation, culture, change management, leadership development, organisational design, cost-efficiency, talent management and succession planning, and performance management.
- Plays a primary role in the delivery of a seamless HR service to the business in partnership with HR Centres of Excellence (COEs) and HR operations to ensure efficient, effective operational delivery.
- Coach and develop leaders and managers in the management and motivation of their teams across the full range of people disciplines, e.g. recruitment, selection, induction, performance management and development, employee relations, reward and succession planning.
- Contribute to the development and execution of the global HR transformation programme with a particular focus on the organisational change and communication aspects of the programme by providing support and guidance to leaders and managers in the application of compliant people related processes and procedures.
- Lead the HR team in the effective development and execution of HR policies, procedures and processes and ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of HR ‘back office’ functions including payroll, benefits and all related HR administration activities leveraging the capability of a new, global, HR system.
- Work with leaders and managers on colleague engagement processes and programmes, related DEI initiatives, and the development and execution of HR processes and programmes to position RWS as an employer of choice.
- Participate in and/or lead the implementation of specific business and HR projects as required.
Skills & Experience:
- Experience of HR leadership in a fast-paced, complex, global company, working directly with senior leadership teams as a trusted adviser.
- HR generalist with a breadth of exposure across the range of HR functional specialisms –strong experience and knowledge of HR policy, Employment Law, TUPE, and Employee Relations required.
- The successful individual will be a highly experienced, talented commercial HR leader with a sharp intellect, a commitment to delivering results, and an effective communicator and influencer capable of building relationships and driving through change working in a collaborative and proactive way.
- An organised approach to work with good prioritization skills, project management skills, high level of numeracy and literacy with a focus on attention to detail.
- A positive, can-do and pragmatic approach to challenges and complexity. Enthusiasm and energy to inspire and lead others with an ability and appetite to drive cultural change. An individual with a team mentality who is capable of fostering close collaboration with business partners.
- CIPD qualified with minimum of 5+ years’ experience in an HR generalist role at senior manager level, with experience of operating in a geographically dispersed organization with employees located across multiple countries.
- Proven leadership skills and evidence of resilience; proven ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and make best use of limited resources.
- Able to effectively manage and mentor remote team members around the world, helping motivate the team and maintain excellent two-way communication.
