Job Description
PRIMARY FUNCTION Provide manufacturing technical welding direction and assistance for new and existing products, including process design, facility layout, capital equipment, and tooling requirements manufacturing operations. The position drives continuous improvement while utilizing the framework of the Eaton Business System (EBS) and the Continuous Improvement Framework (CIF). ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Able to confer with Design Engineering on manufacturability and testability of new products and bring new products into Manufacturing: a. Ability to understand manufacturing, assembly, welding and fit & trim process, be able to interact with Design Engineers in technical discussions around these processes. b. Possesses a good understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerance usage. c. Familiarity with New Product Introduction project management systems. d. Evaluates/Selects tooling and equipment supplies as well welding process. Writes capital justification requests. Develops, evaluates, and improve manufacturing methods, including tooling, fixtures for welding. Conducts research and development investigations to develop and test new fabrication processes and procedures. Improve existing welding equipment, develop new and modify current welding methods, techniques, and procedures. Prepares technical reports as result of research and development and preventive maintenance investigations. Establishes welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, welding of critical joints Testing welding personnel for certification. Develops and analyzed statistical data and product/process performance to recommend and implement improvements in targeted areas (FPY from NDT). Confers with management, engineering and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules and other considerations to facilitate production processes. Develops, implements, and audits inspection and test plans, standards and acceptance criteria, and procedures/work instructions. Confers with vendors to determine product specifications Qualifications SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE Minimum 5 years of experience on a similar position. Minimum 5 years of experience on Welding (GTAW, RSW, SMAW, etc) Materials engineering background (desired) Bilingual English/ Spanish Good communication skills Computer Skills Strong project management skills Understanding of problem solving methods (Six Sigma, 8D, root cause analysis) Knowledge of industry and customer specific quality registration schemes and certification processes (NADCAP, ISO9001, AS9100, and AWS). Knowledge of process auditing techniques to ensure compliance to defined quality requirements. Knowledge of MIL, ASM, ASTM, AWS Standards, with aircraft engine manufacturer specification knowledge Detail Oriented Bachelor’s degree on Engineering.
