In this position, you will support the eMobility Group as the High Voltage (HV) Safety Systems Senior Engineer. This is an emerging, exciting technology, and the right person will drive DTNA's success by helping our engineering department, customers and network adopt battery electric vehicles into their operations. This person will be responsible for leading the development of HV safety aspects into the overall vehicle design, ensuring that appropriate safety standards, functional safety, and compliance requirements are met.
Responsibilities
- Support companywide development and launch of electric mobility at Daimler Trucks.
- Owner of overall HV standards that apply to the entire vehicle, e-drive systems, and vehicle environment. Work with other engineers and groups to implement.
- Lead engineer identifying requirements and implementation of crash standards as it applies to high voltage systems on the vehicle.
- Work with battery engineers and other component owners to determine scenarios and calibration of HV shutdown thresholds that will disconnect HV batteries under various emergency situations.
- Lead functional safety (ISO26262) and implementation of resultant ASIL levels and component requirements for HV e-drive systems.
- Define regulatory requirements and drive implementation on the vehicle – HV compliance standards, FMVSS, MBN internal standards, etc.
- Implement software requirements related to HV safety aspects into key ECUs, writing requirements and working with software engineers to confirm compliance.
- Participate as a key participant in the global HV safety organization, defining processes, safety standards, and training to be followed for personnel working on electric vehicles.
- Involvement in industry organizations for HV standards such as SAE, ISO, and other internal committees.
- Lead global collaboration to commonize safety standards and implementation across different business units MBT, Fuso, and DTNA.
- Ensure DTNA requirements and performance are met by a global HV system.
- Support production project timing to rollout electric test trucks according to project timing.
- Provide engineering support to vehicle production team to resolve manufacturing process issues related to HV systems.
- Stay current on electric vehicle technology developments.
- Generate new ideas and methods for optimizing vehicle design, systems, and processes.
- A Master's degree from an accredited college/university with 4+ years related experience OR a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university and 6+ years of related experience required.
- A degree focus in electrical, mechatronics, power systems, or related engineering fields
- Experience with design, implementation, or validation of high voltage automotive components required.
- Experience with vehicle networks, communication protocols, and software required.
- Must be well organized, able to handle multiple, detailed tasks, and work professionally with various levels of DTNA management required.
- Customer orientated with a real sense for the marketplace required
- Excellent management and leadership skills required.
- Strong interpersonal skills and, oral and written communication skills required.
- Moderate travel (~20%), especially initially required.
- Detail oriented, reliable, and self-motivated required.
- Proven ability to translate business needs into technical requirements required.
- Ability to work in an environment of ambiguity and ongoing change required.
- Strong technical proficiency on commercial vehicle design with a focus on power systems preferred.
- Experience with DFMEAs and ISO26262 Functional Safety analysis for automotive electronics products required
- Experience defining vehicle crash requirements and calibrating sensors or controllers preferred.
- Knowledge of relevant high voltage standards such as LV123, ECE-R100, etc. required.
- Understanding of electrical safety requirements and protection mechanism of HV components, such as isolation monitoring, x/y capacitance, etc. preferred.
- Languages: English (fluent); German (Intermediate) preferred; additional language(s) appreciated preferred.
