Job Description
Position Overview
Whittle School & Studios seeks qualified candidates to apply for the position of Health and Wellness Instructor for our campuses in Washington, DC and Shenzhen, China. The Health and Wellness instructors/educators will deliver developmentally appropriate and applied content to students, ages pre-school to grade 12, before and after the traditional school day, during the school day, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
The part- and full-time Health & Wellness Instructor will, in collaboration with Studios' General Managers, be responsible for delivering the local Studios' Health & Wellness content (both on site and virtually), personalizing Studios' sessions, working with students from particular age groups and developmental levels, participating in onboarding and training programs, interfacing with families, and supporting students on their learning journeys.
Studios' Health & Wellness programming covers content that includes topics such as Exercise for Healthy Body & Mind and a variety of sports (Archery, Badminton, Fencing, Futsal, Martial Arts, and Table Tennis). We call our enrichment offerings "Studios" to convey the experimental and concentrated nature of delving deeply into a topic of interest and excitement in a dedicated space. Each Studio will culminate in a project-based portfolio project that students will digitally archive. Our advisors will ensure that students are exploring their full potential through a learning trajectory curated specifically for them.

The candidate characteristics that comprise our Ideal Instructor Candidate and that we use for identifying and selecting Studios' talent are organized by four program areas: (1) Core Curriculum: Our Interdisciplinary and Experiential Approach; (2) Global Perspectives: Mastering Tools to Tackle the World's Challenges; (3) Personalized Pathways: Student-Led Learning Guided by Caring Advisors; and (4) Beyond the Core: Explore Passions and Discover Interests. We have also outlined the responsibilities expected as a member of a collaborative, professional learning community.

- Possess a bachelor's or master's degree in a health and wellness field or a Studios' pathway strand—Exercise for Healthy Body & Mind and a variety of sports (Archery, Badminton, Fencing, Futsal, Martial Arts, and Table Tennis)
- Havel proficiency in Mandarin Chinese for China positions; preferred for DC
- Possess some teaching experience of students from age three to 18 preferably in non-traditional setting and teaching interdisciplinary content in a health and wellness field or a Studios' pathway—Exercise for Healthy Body & Mind and a variety of sports (Archery, Badminton, Fencing, Futsal, Martial Arts, and Table Tennis)
- Oversee assistant instructor assigned to Studio(s)
- Deliver the local Studio content
- Personalize Studio sessions
- Participate in onboarding and training programs
- Interface with families
- Support students and the staff team
- Participate in professional learning communities, in planning with Studio team, and in other collaborative communities
- Demonstrate drive and energy to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
- Demonstrate experience embedding diverse, cross cultural personal and professional environments
- Possess interest in global education and/or world culture demonstrated through study and professional and/or volunteer experiences
