Job Description

This is a vacancy from a client of TopTutorJob.cn. We are looking for a UK higher education counselor in Shanghai downtown.

About our client

BE Education was founded in 2003 with the aim of helping Chinese students gain entry into the most reputable schools in the UK and US. BE now has offices in Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Shenzhen, Tianjin, Changzhou, Zhengzhou, Hangzhou, Hong Kong, Singapore, Boston (US) and London (UK).

Responsibilities
Assessment/Study Plan design:
  • Assess students’ academic ability, English ability and general ambitions
  • Evaluate their personality and hobbies and suitability for different courses of study
  • Speak to parents to get a full picture on the child, aims for their child, and their general study abroad plan
  • Ultimately learn to choose suitable target universities to meet parents’ expectations and child’s ability
  • Create a study plan to help students achieve their targets, and work with students throughout the university application process
  • Support communication and smooth work processing between Chinese clients working with overseas consultants in the BE London office
Client Management:
  • Guide and motivate students to keep them on track for their study plans and university application process
  • Organise short-term tuition in UK/China or US/China based on requirements you have for them and outline for tutors
  • Continually check and track progress of students via communication with schools/tutors, and adjust study plan as necessary
  • Keep in touch with students even when they are overseas just to insure their continued progress
  • Help students write personal statements and prepare for Oxbridge interviews
  • Check students’ progress by monitoring their work – provide feedback and adjust tuition if needed.
Communication with Parents:
  • Inform parents of their children’s progress
  • Explain your suggestions/study plans to parents
  • Understand and manage parents’ expectations
  • Help manage parents' concerns/ requirements/issues once child is abroad
  • Keep parents aware of any worries/concerns you may have and keep them generally happy
Marketing Activities:
  • Deliver presentations on various topics for potential clients, with some travel within China possible
  • Writing articles about schools, issues faced by clients/students etc… for our schools guide and website
  • Write up success stories of students
  • Represent the company at events/dinners/galas we are invited to attend
Other:
  • Help to organize and execute an application boot camp in the summer for students about to apply to university
  • Provide training for new consultants (normally 2x a year) on certain aspects of study abroad
  • Other tasks as assigned by supervisor

Requirements

  • British national or with educational/living experience in the UK
  • Bachelor's degree or above from a top 10 worldwide university
  • With at least one-year experience in education
  • Speak fluent Mandarin Chinese – Preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work within a small team on projects
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Chinese students and parents
  • Good understanding of the UK/US education system
  • Strong work ethic – willing to work weekends/evenings
  • Passion for education and passion for changing students’ lives
  • Resourceful nature, ability to juggle and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Strong sense of initiative
  • Knowledge and understanding of UK universities and preferably boarding schools
