Job Title: Art Teacher (High School Focus)

Location: Shanghai

Reporting to: MHS Visual & Performing Arts Dept. Head

Job Purpose：Contributes toward building a world class MHS division through providing instructional guidance in visual arts courses (grades 6-12) in middle school and high school while actively contributing to our students and school through associated roles expected of a holistic professional educator in a dynamic system dedicated to honor, excellence, community and joy.

Job Duties：

1.Teach a minimum of 20 periods of MHS arts’ courses per week

2.Work with students primarily in middle school (grades 6-8), but will include some high school (grades 9-12) as assigned for the school year

3.Art classes will be primarily in visual arts instruction, which could include yearbook design (5 periods/week), and which includes serving as a facilitator for MS students’ weekly electives exploration

4.Work on curriculum development, which includes preparing effective diverse lesson units based on the school’s curriculum formats using the Understanding by Design (UbD), which includes updating these units on Rubicon Atlas

5.Design authentic assessments and measure their effectiveness in meeting curricular goals

6.Promote our “Expected School-wide Learning Results (ESLRs): global citizenship, motivated learners, healthy individuals, and persons of character 7.Maintain and update timely student records including grading (homework, grade books, progress reports, report cards, student attendance, and other required documents)

8.Be actively involved in (at least two) extra-curricular activities as a faculty sponsor/advisor/coach/helper/school committee member

9.Actively fulfill assigned supervision duties, which could include serving as a homeroom teacher

10.Able to work closely with students who exhibit near English proficiency

11.Proactively meet and communicate with parents, students and other teachers when necessary to develop interventions for students with academic, emotional/behavioral or other needs

12.Serve as a substitute teacher when needed

13.Take an active role in required meetings (departmental; grade level; committees, faculty; etc.)

14.Assist with additional duties as assigned

1.Bachelor’s degree required in art education (i.e., secondary art); a bachelor’s degree in a related field (such as art, design, etc.) is considered with verified full-time teaching experience while possessing a valid teaching license

2.Must possess a valid teaching license/certificate

3.At least 2 years related science teaching experience in a regular secondary school setting

4.Evidence of current relevant professional development
