The Team

WeWork’s mission is to build a world where people make a life, not a living. It achieves this by providing a platform that delivers space, community, and services to its 300,000+ global members. Our Technology Design Team creates novel products, services, and experiences that bridge the digital and physical worlds in a way only WeWork can.

We believe that great design has the ability to engage and inspire our members and we strive to rethink and redefine how our WeWork members interact with other members, our physical spaces and the broader community team. Our designers are strategic thinkers and conceptual problem solvers who create new products, services and experiences.

About the Role:

We are looking for a seasoned and talented design leader for our Shanghai design team who is experienced in deploying a programmatic approach to human centered design, who has a rigorous-yet-flexible design and craft process, and who has a proven track record of shipping new and innovative digital product experiences.

In this role, you’ll be leading and mentoring a team of designers through the end-to-end design process, from the discovery and definition of innovation opportunities through ideation and craft. You will be a strategic partner with product and technology teams to ensure prioritization and delivery of key work streams through a best in class, inclusive design process.

Responsibilities

  • Drive design quality, practice, and offerings that meet business and user goals.
  • Own craft and capability output across key projects, ensuring each project deliverable is of the highest quality across the mission area.
  • Plan and build curated design programs to solve complex problems with design thinking and best in class product design delivery.
  • Assess performance and provide career guidance and performance decisions for members of the member experience design team.
  • Provide directional oversight of individual project team’s work and assume overall accountability for it.
  • Cultivate relationships with new and existing stakeholders across the business.

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of relevant industry experience; 4+ years leadership/management experience; demonstrated experience leading cross-discipline teams.
  • Experience creating environments where design teams can do high-quality, process driven work.
  • Experience building and strengthening the multidisciplinary skillsets of a design team.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with driving and applying user-centered design processes while working collaboratively with customers, along with cross-functional teams including engineering, product management, and user research.
  • Mastery in two to three areas of expertise such as Service Design, Visual Design, Interaction Design, or Content Design.
  • Highly proactive with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

About WeWork

WeWork is the platform for creators, providing hundreds of thousands of members around the world with space, community, and services that enable them to do what they love and create their life's work. Our mission is to create a world where people work to make a life, not just a living, and our own team members are central to that goal.

WeWork is creating a layer of technology to power our vision of “space as a service”. From identifying and designing a new location, to bringing that space to market in an elastic, easy-to-consume way, to seamlessly operating these spaces to delight our members, we are building state-of-the-art systems to automate, optimize, and enhance the experience. The data we are collecting is being used to dynamically optimize utilization, pricing, even layout and form factor. This technology advantage has allowed WeWork to scale to 200+ buildings in 20+ countries and will be our competitive advantage as the company continues to grow.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity in our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
