As a Mechanical R&D Engineer, you will be part of the Power Grids (PG) Business and Transformers (BL) Business Line, based in Xiamen. ABB is World’s No.1 in Power Products Business and the product manufactured becomes the key components to transmit and distribute electricity. The division incorporates ABB’s manufacturing network for Transformers, Switchgear, Circuit Breakers, Cables and associated equipment. It also offers all the services needed to ensure products’ performance and extend their lifespan.

You will contribute significantly to successful project results in projects in Dry & Traction Transformers Product Group/ Transformers (BL) Business Line / Power Grids (PG) Business, Shanghai state/China country/NAS region. Reporting to the PGTR TC Manager, you will use your creative thinking and apply innovation process to develop new and innovative products with world leading technologies. You will collaborate on projects with your colleagues in Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, United States, Korea, and other countries. Your responsibilities

  • Develop innovative designs to meet all requirements for functionality, performance, reliability, serviceability, cost and manufacturability of transformer products.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional international teams to complete electrical, mechanical, simulation, prototyping, and testing.
  • Engage in all phases of new product development, including concept, architecture, documentation, design, prototype, test, supplier interfaces, manufacturing introduction and service support.
  • Provide punctual technical support to factories, sales people and customers.
  • Lead project execution.
  • Ability to develop unique concepts/solutions for complex products.
  • Demonstrated engineering skills in methodical design and test.
  • Ability of planning and conducting rigorous design of experiments and tests to verify and validate designs.
  • Ability of completing technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of technologies for transformers preferred.

Your background

  • MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering field.
  • 3 years or more of relevant experiences as a Technical Engineer or similar role in a global corporate environment.
  • Familiar with 2D and 3D mechanical design tools and capable of 3D modeling tools, such as ProE, CATIA, UG, SOLIDWORKS.
  • Capable of FEA knowledge, mechanical/thermal simulation (ANSYS/Abaqus/Fluent).
  • Knowledge of mechanical aspects of design.
  • Skilled in product life cycle methods (i.e. specification, design, implementation, qualification).
  • Strong team leadership and teamwork with cross-functional communications and influential skills.
  • Good project management skills and customer focused.
  • Self-motivated, energized, and results oriented.
  • Creative thinking with demonstrated analytical skills and structured work approach.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical and process problems.
  • Ability to work independently toward timely completion of a variety of assignments.
  • Willingness to travel on business work.
  • Fluent in oral and written English.
