Job Description

Your Role:

Reporting directly to Department Head, the jobholder is responsible for leading a team for Performance Materials and Life Science legal entities in charge for all GL and reporting operation activities according to pre-defined activity splits. The jobholder ensures timely reporting of complete and correct financial data that serves as the basis for operational and strategic decision made by senior management (HB II). The jobholder ensures compliance with local legal & Accounting regulations (HB I). The jobholder is accountable for driving/leading topics and projects and managing various needs or expectations from stakeholders with a high degree of technical leadership ability and high degree of determination, reliability, efficiency and flexibility.

Coach the employee, help connect the team members to how their roles contributes to the company’s vision, develop the team for talent attraction and retention, frame the bench plan for key positions to build and enhance the team’s capabilities to achieve the competitive advantages for the long-term value creation.

Lead the general accounting team to provide the support to the entities within the greater China region to ensure the statutory ledgers and IFRS ledgers are properly prepared in line with the accounting standards. Various internal/external reporting packages owned by the team are completed in due course with good quality. Actively seek out the innovation/improvement opportunities to efficiently deliver the base services.

Proactively seek best knowledge from internal/external resources to capture the changes to the regulations or new technologies applied in the finance/accounting universe in a timely manner to understand the impact to legal entities as well as the opportunities which may help Merck create more economic profit (tax reform, financial subsidy policy, new accounting standard adoption and new automation technology application etc.)

Who You Are:

1. Education
1.1. University degree or equivalent practical experience and professional knowledge
1.2. CPA or ACCA is preferred
2. Skills/experiences
2.1. At least 5 years of professional experience in Internal and External Accounting, Finance, Controlling, Auditing or similar fields, with leadship role
2.2. Detailed knowledge of IFRS, local tax laws, Group Finance and Administrative Guidelines, CAS (Chinese Accounting Standards)
2.3. Advanced SAP knowledge
3. Communications skills with the ability to build long term partnerships with internal management & staff
4. Language skills: Local language and fluent English in spoken and written
5. Competence to grasp an overview of complex subject matters and to deduce operational activities
6. Experienced in multidisciplinary project- and corresponding change management
7. Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required
8. Passionate to make the changes in a fast pace
