Supervisor: Director of IT


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Product management for educational software applications and technology solutions

  • Understand our schools’ academic and non-academic users’ technology needs and software requirements.

  • Collect and synthesize inputs from school academic and non-academic teams, as well as from industry groups to lead functionality and application direction.

  • Assess all individual user requirements and their feasibility to be supported.

  • Prioritise functionalities, build and communicate a clear product vision, and develop a long-term product roadmap and strategy.

  • Own product specifications, requirements, and release plans, and serve as the key decision maker for defining supported functionalities.

  • Identify opportunities for enhancing users’ work efficiency via technology solutions.

  • Ensure end user focus for all developed applications leading to a bread adoption in all our schools and high user satisfaction evaluations.

  • Lead cross-functional end-user teams to align requirements across multiple schools and to ensure user-centric development as well as effective practical usage.

  • Create training materials and lead training of applications team and school IT professionals who will provide long-term support to end users.

2. Software development management and technology architecture

  • Lead a technology team to produce world-class educational technology solutions driven by education expertise and technology vision.

  • Create and oversee an innovative technology architecture that consistently spans all in-house developed applications.

  • Continuously introduce latest technology advances to foster outstanding teaching, learning, and school management.

  • Manage third-party designers and developers, and take ownership of the overall vendor relationship, incl. all technical, commercial and administrational aspects.

  • Build and grow over time our own in-house technology development team, including analysts, designers and developers to build and support practical, user-friendly educational software solutions.

  • Provide technical guidance and coaching to the development team.

  • Foster a culture of excellence, end-user focus, innovation and continuous improvement.

  • Serve as the lead architect of modern web-based and mobile technology solutions.

  • Create transparent documentation for overall technology architecture, incl. all related data interfaces.

  • Enforce a consistent coding standard and strict information security practices.

  • Ensure diligent testing and professional deployment for all new applications.

  • Integrate our custom applications into our existing technology landscape by building interfaces with other school systems.

  • Oversee progress of development team to ensure consistency with initial design and user needs.

  • Approve final product before initial launch and all future updates.

  • Work with CO IT systems and applications teams to deploy and implement all applications across multiple schools.

  • Manage all activities of the CO IT software development group.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree or above

Major: Computer Science, Information Technology or related major

Language: Fluent in English and Chinese

Working experience: A minimum of 10-year relevant experience

Expertise:

  • Experience in leading software development projects, especially for web-based and native mobile solutions.

  • Experience in leading a technology/development team of 5-10 engineers.

  • Experience in application product management with full responsibility of product features, roadmap and end user communication.

  • Experience in the education industry is a plus.

  • Familiar with a variety of modern technology frameworks, standards, databases and programming languages, preferably PHP, Laravel, JavaScript, vue.js, .net, AzureSQL, etc.

  • Strong ability to translate business needs into technical requirements.

· Excellent written and verbal communications skills in both English and Chinese

  • Structured, methodical, analytcal and organised

  • Self-reliant, hardworking, with a strong drive to achieve results.

  • International and bilingual school working experience is a plus

  • Cross-cultural working experience is preferred

  • Passion for the education industry

  • Track record of solving complex problems, strategic thinking and delivering significant impact
  • Highest personal integrity, accountability and credibility
