Engineering Manager

Leggett & Platt’s Work Furniture division in Foshan, China specializing in producing a variety of contract furniture components is seeking a highly motivated and results oriented Engineering Manager. You will be responsible for providing engineering support using a team of engineers and technicians responsible for production support with respect to directing, coordinating, and exercising functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering projects.

Essential responsibilities and duties

• Lead the Engineering team in support of new product launches through process design and development, and transfer of new products to production
• Supervise and lead engineers and technicians who design, plan, and develop projects
• Review, approve and/or modify design changes, specifications, and drawing releases
• Draft proposals, develop cost estimates, and manage departmental budgets

・ Coordinate Engineering activities within the business unit

・ Hire, train, and mentor other engineers and support staff

・ Manage activities concerned with product testing and performance

• Consult with Product Development on best methods of integrating new products into the manufacturing phase
• Be a strong coach, team builder, and a source of inspiration to the engineering team and be a strong force of positive influence on other cross-functional teams
• Drive continuous improvement culture within the team to improve manufacturing throughput and product performance through Kaizen, Design for Manufacturing, and Assembly (DFMA) initiatives
• Develop and manage the technical documentation systems to maintain a strong quality compliance level and an adherence to process control

Qualifications

・ Bachelor’s degree required, graduate degree a plus.

・ 7+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

・ 3 years + experience in a supervisory/management role.

・ Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

・ Ability to read, Analyze, and interpret technical documents, financial reports, technical procedure, and governmental regulation in both Chinese and English.

・ Working knowledge of Solid Works or similar CAD software packages, Knowledge of Microsoft Office.

・ Fluent in English for verbal and written communication. With the ability to translate and communicate technical documents in both English and Chinese.

・ Experience with Aluminum die casting, plastic injection molding, and assembly automation.
