Job Description

VMware is looking for a Virtual / Live Event Technician to join its Colleague Experience & Technology organization at our campus in Costa Rica. In addition to becoming a member of a diverse IT support Organization, in this role you will be responsible for the production and delivery of VMware internal conferences and events conducted onsite and in a virtual environment within the Global AV Services team. There will be a variety of responsibilities including, but not limited to pre-production for in-person and virtual events, content management, managing timelines, content deliverables and facilitating AV equipment and virtual web platform technologies to facilitate events, as well as being a member of a diverse IT support Organization.

What is primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?

The primary need for this role is to provide day to day organization and technical execution of in-person and virtual events for the global events team. You will be responsible for communicating with event organizers, gathering important technical details and partnering with additional AV / IT professionals to successfully execute the event.

What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

Successfully manage the pre-production, technical event execution and post event deliverables of an event with 60 days Be responsible for post event metrics collection (reporting/analytics) and postproduction editing (heads & tails) for events. Training speakers/presenters/end users on the web collaborative tools / virtual technologies, ensuring the functionality of streaming media such as PowerPoint presentations, live video, screen-sharing, and audio/video playback. Step in a variety of AV support roles for in-room events which can include camera operation, switching, graphics, video playback, and audio engineer Assist support staff with routine AV maintenance and troubleshooting Support team and partners with the delivery of VR streaming an on-demand service Become entirely up to speed on internal processes, procedures, and policies within 90 days.

What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

We are continually looking to improve our technical event experience and execution. Initially assignments will include providing remote/virtual event support for our colleagues using our collaborative web technologies that can feature video with slides, video playback, polling, and interactive Q&A.  Onsite event support can include pre-event AV project management to live event technical execution within our event spaces. Over the next year, we are working to implement additional AV capabilities include virtual and augmented reality event experiences.

Additional support projects can will require strong organizational, time management and communication skills. The role may require testing additional AV equipment / products and providing feedback to our team for future use case.

Required Skills:

  • 3 – 5 of experience in live event production / virtual production environment
  • 2 – 4 years of experience in a corporate audiovisual support role
  • Intermediate knowledge of audiovisual production equipment (Audio mixers, lighting/staging, HD/SD/UHD mixed format switchers, etc.)
  • Have experience with standard desktop conferencing applications (i.e., Skype for Business, WebEx, Zoom, Microsoft Teams etc.)
  • Experience with HD streaming, streaming software (Wirecast), protocols (H.323, SIP, RTMP, etc.) a strong plus
  • Experience with the following platforms/software:
    • Office 365
    • Windows 10 and Mac OS
    • Crestron Fusion
    • Linux experience a plus
    • Adobe Premiere and Illustrator
    • VLC, QuickTime
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to calmly work under pressure
  • Possess excellent written and verbal social skills
  • Must have ability to multitask, make decisions quickly, complete on deadlines
  • Ability to travel 10%

Preferred Skills:

  • BS/BA preferred in Broadcasting, Radio, Communications or related field
