Wong Bing Lai Music and Performing Arts Unit

The Wong Bing Lai Music and Performing Arts Unit serves the entire university community by providing courses, ensembles, performances and activities to enrich the cultural education of all. It offers Core Curriculum and advanced courses in a wide variety of music and performing arts-related topics, encouraging a creative and activity-based understanding of the performing arts and their contexts. The Unit also presents performance events throughout the year on campus, including concerts featuring music from various cultures, and drama and dance performances. To encourage interactive and experiential learning for students, the Unit organizes workshops, music lessons, and choral and instrumental ensembles for students, as well as managing student ticketing opportunities for off-campus performances.

 

The appointee is expected to take up a range of administrative responsibilities within the Unit. Major duties include: (a) assisting the Unit Head in the administration of the unit, including overseeing its budget, providing secretarial support for relevant committee work, managing the website, and assisting in the reporting and review of courses and activities; (b) providing administrative support to teachers for all courses related to music and performing arts, including liaising with guest performers and lecturers; (c) liaising with external organizations to coordinate partnerships and internships; (d) organizing university-wide music and performing arts activities, including promotion, communications and management of venue and equipment; (e) liaising with relevant internal departments and units for cross-disciplinary courses and for co-curricular workshops and activities; and (f) any other duties as assigned by supervisors.

 

 

Requirements

Ideal applicants will have: (i) a Bachelor’s degree with at least 3 years of experience in academic administration, arts and culture management, or other relevant work experience; (ii) familiarity with music and/or other performing arts forms; (iii) good command of both Chinese and English; (iv) strong report-writing ability and analytical skill; (v) high level of competence in MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint and webpage applications; (vi) good communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills; (vii) ability to work independently, effectively and efficiently; and (viii) mature judgement to take initiative as appropriate.

 

Salary and Benefits

Commencing salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits, where applicable, include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund and gratuity.
