As an Animal Husbandry Technician I, you will be responsible for providing facility operations support. The Animal Husbandry Technician is responsible for observing and maintaining the facility operations

Specific responsibilities include:

• Observe appropriate safety and animal procedure requirements by reading, understanding and following Standard Operating Procedures (LAR Guidelines).
• Observe appropriate safety and health practices including personal protective equipment and barrier requirements.
• Remove animal waste from cages and prepare cages and associated caging equipment (bottles, feeders, lids) for washing.
• Operate cage/rack washer and maintain cage washer operation logs.
• Prepare clean cages with bedding.
• Operate autoclave and sterilize animal caging equipment and materials.  Maintain sterilization logs.
• Maintain the animal facility in a clean and orderly condition. Remove regular trash and biohazard waste from facility.  Sweep and mop floors.  Scrub floors with mechanical scrubber.
• Prepare cleaning chemicals.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Animal Husbandry Supervisor/Manager.

Education:  High school diploma or equivalent

Experience:  No experience working in a laboratory animal research setting necessary, but desirable.

Special Skills/Abilities: 

• Ability to lift objects frequently in performing daily work activities
• Ability to pull or push objects on a regular basis
• Ability to carry objects on a regular basis in the arms or on the shoulders
• Ability to reach for objects above the head or below the waist.
• Ability to stoop of crouch by bending at the waist or by bending the legs
• Basic computer skills – Microsoft Office, Outlook
